General / The Forum / Re: Entering the US with a drug caution....?
|
on: September 16, 2012, 13:56:04

Is a caution considered a conviction?
A caution does not count as a conviction, no. A caution is a conviction, but it's considered spent the moment you're issued with it by the Superintendent at the cop shop- hence you don't have to declare it as an unspent conviction under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Also, this thing about cautions being stepped down after 4 years / 5 years / whatever is unfortunately no longer true; the law was amended in 2009 and cautions are now no longer stepped down at all. If you were cautioned in 1990 and were now to apply for a job requiring an Enhanced CRB check, it would show up. With both of those things said - if you tick 'no' and fly to the States, there's a very high probability that you'll get in just fine. That is not actually 100% accurate about cautions…. i had a caution when i was 16 (33 now) for weed, and i have had 2 enhanced CRB checks for working with schools in the last 4 years, and it has never shown up….

Will be on this later. I may be a fan of techno, but I have completely missed anything by Jeff Mills.
How the fuck did you manage that? Nice link, cheers. I'm really good at missing out on stuff. Most of the 90s for me was Hip-Hop based with my techno excursions being mainly Aphex and other Warp like stuff. Otherwise I was listening to MAW or funk or disco. I'm making techno at the moment and have an album almost ready to go. this isn't really going to show you what the man is about more hip hop influenced than techno treally , check purpose maker and axis releases.... not really comparable to moden swing minimal bull though....rough and raw.No one operates a 909 like him, he is like a machine...

The video seems to be slightly misleading, at least according to their own press release: There will be six custom built stages on land and water - we are using the vast industrial buildings for projections and visual installations, not as venues. yeah the video was misleading and i think this is what caused the backlash as people assumed incorrectly that the part was in the big building. As they are now partnered with Shangrala peeps there will be some cool shit i am sure, teh main 'hub' and a 30 metre dome are due to stay permanently, the rest are pop up stages, one i have heard will be made out of freight containers. they also stated that all stages will be within walls and covered.

I'm gutted. No more staggering back to the chalet to get a refill, no more walking on the beach and It'll be a mission to get back to your accommodation every evening. I dont get their logic.
we bought tickets at the last event, so have been contemplating a refund, but we have also managed to get a hotel 1/2 mile from teh event pretty cheap, so i might still go, although must try not to compare , totally different beast this time

|

Got an email from motion stating some serious security being added, thought people might not see it and get caught out...
After lengthy discussions with the Police and Local Council we will be required to take on extra licensing conditions for our New Years Eve event. Please read through them carefully and spread the word to any others whom you know will be attending the show.
Due to continuing Police concerns over drug sales and use at our premises, we will have two passive drugs dogs at the entrance to the venue on the night. These will be used at the search points to the venue. There will also be uniformed police officers at the entrance - anyone found with illegal substances will be passed straight over to the police. Inside the venue, as always, there will be both uniformed security and plain-clothed security in operation.
We’re sorry if these measures seem draconian, they are in place simply for your safety. Without them there was a strong chance the event would not be granted the required license. We are working incredibly hard with Avon & Somerset Police and Bristol City Council to make the club as safe an environment as possible.
Please don’t attempt to bring illegal substances into Motion, it really is risking the future of the club. Unfortunately, we have been seriously let down over the last few months by a few bad apples whose actions in attempting to deal and supply illegal substances to others within the venue – has put the whole project at risk of closure, not just the club, but the BMX park as well. We've worked very hard here to make this the best clubbing experience possible, and to lose it all would be a real shame, we have to do everything in our powers to make sure this doesn’t happen.
Thanks for all your continued help and support, we really do appreciate it and we look forward to having the best party in the country, here in Bristol, with you all on the 31st.

Food for your Ears / The Desk / Re: Recommend I reason or logic or cubase?!?!?
|
on: November 18, 2011, 16:10:10

@Snoo - Im not in bristol no sadly. Based in Germany which makes things complicated for finding information out. Naturally i would just bug everyone i know in bristol until i had some idea fo what to do.
@Bolton - Cheers for your input. I think, although all the great things i hear about albeton, it might be too expensive for me. My main concern is blowing a fortune on something that i end up not liking much. On top of what i need for ableton i would have to get an audio interface and a midi controller, which really pushes me over budget. Having said that id rather pay more and get something that i will be happy using for a long time and not be wanting to upgrade after two months.
I am think for the moment, i just want to create sounds with some sequencing abilities. so reason is appealing for that so that is one option. or i just go and get either cubase or logic ligh versions, use them for sequencing editing and EQing, then get a cheap ass drum machine, a guitar delay pedal, an audio interface, a field recorder and a shed load of smaples. Find my producing feet and see what works, bash out some ideas then maybe look into something more pro if i actually come up with anything fruitfull. Seeing as i will need an audio interface for anything i would want to buy later, and i would want a drum machine, delay pedal and field recorder anyway.
Got a couple of months before i want to spend the money so im open to other suggestions
you can definately get a lite version of ableton too mate https://www.ableton.com/shop/categories/intro , i might even have a disc of 'live lite' that came with a midi controller i bought, i will have a look. you won't necessarilly have to get an interface until you decide producing is for you. You could always use the headphone jack of the laptop into an amp, you get better sound quality from an interace, but at the beggining stage no need to shell out for anything until you are sure it is for you. talking of field recordings and samples - try www.freesound.org, shed loads of both on there that you can download legally, hit the random sound bitton for some wacky sounds! i could spend hours on there .. Good luck with teh experiments, it is a lot of fun!

Alright Tom....
My 2 pennies worth - i don't personally rate reason that much, some people do, but for me it just isn't up to scratch... Logic is awesome but it is complicated and is a bit fiddly for audio IMO ( iam sure it is fine when you get used to it though) . I personally use ableton for production which i think handles audio better and is easier to get to grips with, but as i say these are just my personal preferences. Out of Logic/ Reason i would give Logic the vote every time, far better quality EQs and built in synths etc than reason, having said that i have't used any of the express or lite versions so i don;t know how much comes with it..
I have never used cubase so i can't comment on this at all...

I went on Saturday, it was pretty good I thought, well worth the cash anyway. Good to just mooch about between the different stages, seemed to bump into someone I knew every 5 minutes as well.
The dome thing was prob my favourite bit, well good, dunno who was playing but there was some nice techno and the visuals on the roof were amazing.
There was some proper shit dnb late on Sat, dunno who that was, crowd seemed to like it though so I am probably wrong.
Saw Dub Mafia at the end, they were just right for a festival, proper live band but had everyone dancing..
Didnt do the carpark as I am too old, no good would have come of it.
in case you want to know the techno on saturday in the dome ran... Jim p 6-7 Nick Sutton 8-9 Patrick Bolton & Jamie Curnock 9-10:30 (apologue records)

Was going to go for the weekend but this is a bit of a shambles information wise so will just go down on the Sunday. Dont want to buy a ROA ticket then not be able to go to the underground car park but which is the only thing I want to go to ROA wise
Ok someone correct me if i am wrong - for the car park - Friday i believe it is extra (not sure the exact amount) the saturday event is is covered in the £12 rave on avon fee (cheaper if you but a whole weekend pass) Buy a weekend pass and get access to all the festival on all days and also rave on avon including the car park, this is the best option IMO as rave on avon is 12 on it's own and has to be bough with at least 1 day ticket

I have been the last few years, love it there. Really friendly atmosphere, lovely compact site, win win. I would suggest seeing - surgeon for some harder edge stuff, cosmin TRG as he plays quite a variety in his sets, bristol's own Al Tourettes, october, Sven Weisman is always good there, Vince Watson is normally good on a deeper tip, Jeroen Search will be good as well, as is Efdemin shit they are all good in their own way..
the 'resident' are all top notch too…
Expect plenty of deep goodness, i am jealous as i am not going his year..

Firstly big thanks to all those who came to see the legend that is Function in June, the man is a machine and ended up playing for 3 hours! We are now in festival season and the bristol club scene takes a bit of a breather, You might think the dedicated team here at Apologue would be taking a break, what with running a label as well, but we are determined to continue with our mission of bring only the highest quality underground electronic music to Bristol. This time we team up with the lovely chaps from RFID, the collective behind one of the most avant-garde and exciting audiovisual offers, and who regularly take the 'dome' on the road to festivals such as BLOC, Shambala, and our very own Brisfest..
You will find the best quality techno in the Main Room but don’t forget to watch out the front room for a lot of exciting surprises. If you are sticking around in Bristol this summer, come and join us for some fun and games....

So.... we're putting the final touches together for this year's festival now... so any ideas of what you'd like to see now's the time! Can't promise we can afford to do them on the £8 a day entry budget but we'll damn well give it a go!! The decor/fancy dress theme is Lost in the Bermuda Triangle! So leisure shirts, 40's glamour, pilots, sailors and UFO's New additions this year include a crazy golf course, interactive catchphrase (anyone want to design a visual metaphor let us know and we'll use it... even if its rude, but not totally obscene!) a kids stage, fancy dress booth, the photo booth, a tweaked site layout to minimise sound clashes and a secret Rave on Avon venue. We're still programming so feel free to drop suggestions here or if you're a performer yourself complete the registration form: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/brisfestperformers just hoping the dome is there again, thought this was an amazing addition and thoroughly enjoyed playing in it last year
