^ lol. Gotta love the Dubstep Oblivious Skrillex memes! Was a nice surprise to get the nomination well done on that, i was just moaning about samples/loops to be honest. I'm so sorry I disappointed you Wes. The next time I'm reading your insightful views of the the world, I will be doing so with a small tear of sorrow in my eye... crying men are so 2012, you do what u feel is best . (the loops need to be harder, longer, faster and stronger. like hard sex but without the mess ) It's all good man, if they're not your thing it's cool. Was asked to make something chilled, emo and 140bpm so probably not the sample pack you're looking for! voted! also heads up that kahn is nominated for best new producer as well (and currently winning). bristol rise up! He had my vote! Should blatantly win though, he smashed it in 2011! Ummm correct me if im wrong but using loops from packs is MEGA lame and you will get baited asap. Any producer worth their salt knows its all about crate digging for new breaks and interesting original processing FTW
If you're using loop packs its like you yourself said - You may as well get a copy of rave ejay and just throw some pretty coloured blocks together. Make something original!
I know what you're saying, but on a positive note i've been getting a silly amount of messages from kids saying it's really helping them out and they're getting loads of ideas for tunes from it. So hopefully by writing more music they'll improve their production and be able to start making tunes without having to rely on loop packs!

What he lacks in FIFA ability he certainly makes up for in musical ability Oi! It's a temporary dip in form! You know I rinsed you in 2011!

Pioneer for both I would of thought.
For the CDJs definitely, but pioneer mixers are secretly made by fisher price imo, never know such an expensive bit of kit to fall apart so easily! i'd say rane or ecler were a good shout, built like tanks! Saying that I do have a broken pioneer mixer sat at home Rane if the budget would stretch but I assume they need 4 channels which means the 68 which is 2 grand Ouch, didn't think about that side of things to be fair lol! maybe avoid the rane for now

Food for your Ears / The Desk / Re: Musical Keys
|
on: December 31, 2010, 12:40:04

What Gyu said basically! though if you wanted it so all sound nice then you'd pick a key/scale which had a G minor in it. If you're sticking to basic modal stuff this would be F Major, Eb Major and Bb Minor, or if you're putting the emphasis on the Gm then (G Dorian, G Phrygian and G Aeolian). (google modes of the major scales/harmonised major scale if i've lost you already...) Each of the modes give a different feel or sound, so if you wanted it to sound pretty dull and standard pop ballard, I"d rock the notes of G Aeolian (Bb Major), if it was for a metal/dubstep/egyptian thing then I'd rock the G Phrygian (Eb Major) and if you're a man of sunshine lounging mellow jazz, you'll rock the G Dorian (F Major) On a basic level these are your options G A Bb C D E F G (G Dorian/F Major) G Ab Bb C D Eb F G (G Phrygian/ Eb Major) G A Bb C D Eb F G (G Aeolian/ Bb Major) Just let the chord samples loop and play the above notes over the top and get a feel for which one you're into. Then you can just dick about with the notes for all your melodies and also make chords from the notes of the scale. I have no idea if this has answered the question or not..... *disclaimer* - this is just one option tho, and the most important thing about music is that there's no right way or wrong way to do anything, and theory etc should be used for support/ as a tool, rather than a prescriptive way of how to do anything

Recently fallen in love with the food down at Ganesha on East St. I can't recommend the food enough, the staff have always been on top form and it's seriously reasonable. http://www.ganeshaindiancuisine.com/ Ganesha is the best curry I've ever had! They can buy their shit wherever they like, they still make the best curry! I don't say this lightly, as there's a few curry houses in Leicester I rate stupidly highly, and thought they'd never be beaten, but Ganesha is the one! I challenge anyone to eat a Gosht Nilgiri, Andhra Chilli Murg or the Murg Chettinad and tell me it wasn't amazing.... Veggie crew I've been with have enjoyed that side of things too if that helps.

Cheers folks! phaeleh sprang to mind yesterday when i saw runner beans reduced in asda, i coined the tabloid style phrase "runner bean loving dubstep producer phaeleh" there and then
We need confirmation on this matter i feel. It is true, I was spotted buying some runner beans in asda. I think it all really comes down to his awesome housemates keeping him topped up with tea Nice one Mr P i was playing after him on monday night in manchester, he fooking smashed it! Ah cheers man, didn't realise that was you! always love hit and run, wicked night!

Thanks for the kind words everyone, always appreciate the support and feedback Is there a story behind 'Breathe In Air' Matt? Er... i'd have to speak to soundmouse, as she wrote the lyrics. but think she just kept it in key with the other tunes on the album, which are all on a bit of a mopey emo tip The album just got a really nice review in Mojo Magazine too, so pretty pleased about that! (ignore the turbo mincey photo)

General / The Forum / Scrump011 - Sclist 'Mirrored' EP - Out Now!!!
|
on: September 13, 2010, 11:49:45
|
Hello, just letting everyone know that the 'Mirrored' EP by Sclist is out today on Urban Scrumping. Sclist is one of the new breed of producers not confined to the specific parameters of any genre - something fast becoming the defining factor for the pioneers in this brave new world of electronic music. Taking elements from a variety of styles and sounds, his music exists in that weird hinterland on the vanishing point of electronica, re-assembling beats and pieces into strange new contraptions. In theory, Sclist's music shouldn't work or even exist. In practice it is some of the best new music you'll hear all year. Support from: 2562 (Tectonic/Hotflush), Komonazmuk (Tempa/Apple Pips/Hench), Rossi b (Planet Mu/Trouble & Bass), Von D (Argon/Black Acre/Boka), Baobinga (Steak House/Trouble & Bass), XXXY(Formant/Mindset/Fabric), Indigo (Mindset/OpenEarz), TMSV (Box Clever), Lung (Kokeshi), I.D. (Build), Bunzer0 (Haunted Audio/Sub FM). As always there's some awesome artwork courtesy of Andy from Byte Design. You can check out the tracks below... http://player.soundcloud.com/player.swf?url=http://soundcloud.com/urban-scrumping-records/sets/sclist-mirrored-ep&show_comments=false&auto_play=false&player_type=artwork&color=81a028">It's available from Boomkat, Juno, iTunes, Amazon, Digital Tunes and Addictech. As we’d like as many people to hear it as possible, we're going to be giving away the release at 128kbps MP3 on the Urban Scrumping site! If you like the sounds or you're a true audio connoisseur then you can still go and support the artist by buying the far nicer sounding 320s/Wavs… http://www.urban-scrumping.co.uk/sclist/mirrored-free-download/

Maybe about 10 years ago....
Yeah the White Pony era was them at their best, but even so.... they are immense. But then again, I've always been a bit of a fanboy I thought White Pony was when they got shit tbh. Adrenaline and Around The Fur were great, it all went a bit downhill after. Saw them in the Anson Rooms years ago and a then unknown Will Haven completely blew them off stage. You just reminded me about the awesomeness of Will Haven.... the Will Haven EP is immense!
