The second Bank Holiday Sunday of 2016 will see Empathy take over the legendary 02 Academy. It's one hell of a special occasion, Empathy's 15th Birthday Party. We're very pleased to bring one of the worlds finest DJ's and Producers back to Bristol for the first time in almost 25 years. The sound of Bedrock - JOHN DIGWEED!

His last appearance in Bristol was in 1994 at Lakota for a Northern Exposure Tour with Sasha. There’s no doubt that this is a historic event, and in more ways than one. From Top 40 smashes ‘Heaven Scent’ and ‘For What You Dream Of’ to world renowned mix CDs for Renaissance, Global Underground and Northern Exposure, it’s little surprise he was voted No.1 DJ in the World by DJmag readers in 2001.

His Bedrock brand has become globally renowned and his tour diary consists of the biggest clubs and festivals across the globe.

He will be fresh from his Re-Structured Tour and appearing at Coachella in California as well as this, his latest compilation ‘Live In Montreal’ will be flying off the shelves in record stores all over the world.

John Digweed's Transitions radio show is one of the world’s most successful dance music shows, broadcast across 45 countries to a staggering weekly audience of over 14 million.

For this special event, the 02 Academy will be transformed. Expect a dark atmospheric club-like environment, perfect for the musical journey John Digweed will provide.

We're excited to welcome back one of the true legends of progressive house, local boy Nick Warren, who was the resident DJ at Lakota when John Digweed last played.

Nick Warren plays all over the world to huge crowds, most recetly to 5,000 people in Buenos Aires on his South American Tour. His Way Out West album with production partner Jody Wisternoff is imminent. Nick has played Empathy many times in the past and always delivers the goods. This will be a rare show for Nick in his hometown, and it's set to be one special event.

In support we have our very own Jim Rivers AKA Copy Paste Soul, his track ‘Empathy’ was a Bedrock release in 2008 and also featured on John Digweed's ‘Bedrock 10 Past Present Future’ compilation. More recently he’s rising to the top with his CPS productions on Intec, Gruvv and Exploited.

NED HAWES (Duvet Vous)

JIM RIVERS(Intec/Platform)
ADAM KENT (Baroque)

After a break from our regular events at Dojo we are back with a bang, we welcome back to Empathy one of the best producers of electronic music in Quivver. He has been paying all over the
world for nearly 2 decades, he’s a great dj/producer and we are very pleased to have him back.

Over the summer we haven’t really had a break with plenty going on such as our party with In:Motion and Carl Cox’s The Revolution party the main man himself alongside Eats Everything, Bushwacka, Copy Paste Soul, Steve Parry and the Empathy residents. Then there was the Summer Special with Jozef K and Typesun at The White Bear which really was a great day with an array of djs alongside a great crowd. Our radio show on Fnoob has been very popular with Adam Kent holding the fort over the summer with some quality shows and mixes.
So expect more of the same, we open late and finish in the early morning with a mega soundsystem, superb outdoor terrace and a dark and entertaining dancefloor.

John Graham started his production career in the early 1990s, and has been a household name within the electronic music scene ever since. He is best known as Quivver, but has invented a host of other monikers, including Space Manoeuvres, Stoneproof, Skanna and Tilt, each representing a different shade of his eclectic production sound and each giving an idea of his true versatility.
John has always gained consistent support for his many varied club releases from DJ giants and close friends such as Sasha, Tong, Oakenfold and Digweed, whilst also having his early Skanna efforts lapped up by drum & bass royalty including Fabio, Grooverider and Doc Scott. He is a multi talented DJ, producer and vocalist and after inking an early deal with A&M in the UK and being championed by Paul Oakenfold he joined Perfecto for several legendary releases and then onto Hooj Choons and Virgin's "VC" imprint.
John went on to establish his own "Boz Boz" label and more recently released tracks on “Bedrock,” “Toolroom,” “Raid/Strictly Rhythm” and “Yoshitoshi.”
As a vocalist John has collaborated and written electrifying songs for the likes of Hybrid, Planet Funk and also Darren Emerson’s exciting new project ‘The Low Highs’.
As a DJ, John has traveled the world and performed every conceivable hot spot from Glastonbury,UK to Pacha, Buenos Aires to Asia to his enviable residency at the notable Twilo, NYC to Avalon, L.A.
In addition, his music has been licensed and charted innumerable times including most recently to Frank Miller’s “The Spirit” and CSI – NY. He has also been and is working on film composing in “The Taking of Pelham 123,” “Twelve,” and “Shrek Forever After 2010.” Additionally, he has produced the music for video game trailers including “Transformers”, “Call of Duty- Modern Warfare 2, “Call of Duty World at War,” “Call of Duty Black Ops,” and ”Batman: Arkham City Riddler.”

Its supposed to be one of the best summers in years, so we are taking full advantage of that. We have a very special party for you to come and loose yourself if your lucky enough to have got your hands on the hottest ticket in town.
We take control of The White Bear in Cotham for what will be a unique event, plus a secret afterparty until the sun comes up.
We kick off at 3pm with Balearic beats from Matt Anesiss, Stuart Wilkinson and Mel Spears while the BBQ sizzles and smokes then after a few hot dogs wash it down with Futureboogies Typesun who is the talk of the town right now with some seriously hot productions with support from Tristan Bolitho from BCFM and Chris Bellamy from Catmonky.

Inside our headliner Jozef K will privide a musical masterclass, a resident at Manchesters Sankeys as well as just being signed to Sasha’s Last night on Earth label, hes hot property right now. With support from Nick Harris from NRK and our very own Jim Rivers, Stuart Wilkinson, Adam Kent plus Whomp Djs – Cornelius, Rob Helps, Riddle and Dan Robins.

Jozef K Biography

Figurehead of Manchester’s vibrant house and techno scene, Jozef K has recently signed productions to Sasha’s flourishing label Last Night On Earth and also to the world renowned One Records.
Despite his young age Jozef has many years of DJ experience at an international level, playing to thousands of people weekly under his residency at Sankeys in Manchester, voted number 1 club in the world. Refusing to follow trends and always crate-digging for obscure tracks has resulted in Jozef having an acclaimed and individual style, much to the interest of Radio 1, who interviewed Jozef on the subject. As well as his Sankeys shows Jozef is constantly touring across Europe.
Jozef has also been showcasing a live 808 set with production partner Winter Son and the recording of their debut performance was selected as Resident Advisor’s mix of the day. The pairing are currently making an album which will be released in late 2013.

Typesun Biography

Luke Harney, aka Typesun, is a producer, drummer & DJ from Bristol. His upcoming album 'Work Is Love Made Visible’, mixes underground dance with contemporary RnB influences.
'Heart Maths', was the first single to drop under the Typesun signature, came out of writing sessions with long-time collaborator & general Bristol hero Guido (State of Joy/Punch Drunk). The track presents a complementary mixture of the two artists' trademark palettes: Guy's rambunctious MIDI instrumentation & fierce square waves over Type's signature rugged drum production & cinematic attention to detail.
New single 'The PL', showcases deep, minimal, underground soul music, this time featuring vocals from a man who would rather keep his identity on the down low for now.

Oh yes, Whomp is back and this summer have we got a treat for you!
Missed out on Glasto? Too slow for Shambala? Well not to panic, we're bringing those summer vibes to Basement 45 with our summer garden party.
There'll be facepainting, a game or two, a dash of lunacy and above all some proper ace music across Basement 45's two rooms. All for only £5 on the door - you'd be mad not to get involved. Feel free to get some fancy dress on. We make it pimms o'clock!

Headlining Room 1 we have Phobic Recordings label boss Tom Special Interest. Tom's been bringing his unique and awesome sound to dancefloors near and far and can be relied upon to tear the dancefloor to shreds. As a dj he's shared bills with legends such as Raoul Belmans, the Lawnchair Generals, Jason Hodges, Phil Weeks, Giom, Jeff K the Inland Knights and Smokescreen Soundsystem.
Tom's released tracks on Drop Music, Mobiletrax, Guesthouse Music, Blockhead and Om Recordings forming Phobic recordings in 2006 and has worked with some of the industry's finest producers achieving support from Mark Farina, Derrick Carter, Mr V., Graham Park, Nick Holder, Justin Harris, Sonny Fodera, Dj Heather, Dj Sneak, Jason Hodges, Roger Sanchez, Joshua Heath, The Inland Knights, Frankie J, Phil Weeks, Hector Moralez, Miles Maeda and Nacho Marco.
In support, we have Empathy mastermind Stuart Wilkinson who will be bringing his ever evolving but always epic sound to the party. Stuarts been ripping up Bristol's dancefloors for over a decade and has been recently exporting his legendary sound as far afield as Shanghai, New Zealand and California!
Drum Soul can't half mix up some house. He will be getting matters kicked off on the right foot in room 1 bringing a whole bucket (and spade!) load of summer sounds.
Finally, our reprehensible residents will be on hand to keep the night kicking. From the twisted deep house and UK G of Cornelius to the jacking bass heavy beats of Riddle and new resident Dan Robbins's b2b team up with Room 2 filthmonger Rob Helps to send you on your way with some stonking chunky funky tech there'll be something for everyone.

Never to be outdone, headlining Room 2, we have the truly magnificent Hatchett aka Stewart MacLeod from Liverpool's Superfly and one half of Slung Low Radio.
Stewart has a truly enviable pedigree including sets at Glastonbury, Chibuku, Berlin, Ibiza and the Lake of Stars festival in addition to various residencies across Liverpool and Manchester playing alongside the likes of Stanton Warriors, Mylo, Cut la Roc, Splitloop and Freestylers. His trademark styles includes disco, glitchy energetic breaks, bassline, nu-jungle and drum and bass. http://soundcloud.com/hatchett1.
In support, we have the mighty Focks from Torquay's Rootsoup soundsystem. Expect soupy tuff reggae, riddems and dub. Epic.
Si Macc will be closing matters out in Room 2 with a storming d&b and Jungle set whilst Teddy G will be opening the batting with a cracking hip hop set. All in all, you won't want to miss this, 2 epic rooms of summer party madness and all for a fiver. Get involved!

After our exceptional 12th Birthday party last month with Henry Saiz, we welcome another excellent producer and dj.
Coming all the way from Tampere in Finland - CidInc!
His exceptional producing skills as well as being a very good dj puts him in the spotlight consistently.
So we are very pleased to give the people what they want, as well as being on our radar for a while, someone suggested him and here he is.
Alongside CidInc we welcome Sonic Union from Lowbit Records as we welcome back to Empathy, promoter and resident for Alfresco Disco and previously Buoyancy we welcome Justin Gettings back to the fold.

CidInc biography
2011 has seen Henri Hurtig – better known as Cid Inc – step into the spotlight as a producer of electronic music of quality and imagination. His progressive techno style is championed by fellow artists and clubbers alike, while demand for his DJ skills have seen Henri play at some of the best clubs on the global dance scene. 2012 looks set to get even better with several new releases ready to go and increasing support for his label, Replug Records.
Born in Finland, raised in Sweden and now based back in Tampere in Finland, Henri began making music in the early ‘90s and soon settled on house as the outlet for his creativity. Now with over a decade of experience behind him as a professional sound engineer, he is well known for his technical ability, but that tells only half the story; his musical talent has also flourished with recent productions receiving widespread critical acclaim. Fusing progressive house and techno with elements from other styles, the Cid Inc sound is a thoroughly modern and exciting interpretation of the house blueprint.
Henri first came to prominence when he teamed up with Mathias Bradler to create Mashtronic in 2004, and their productions and hectic DJ schedule soon brought them to an international audience. As well as playing all over Europe and trips to South America, Australia and New Zealand, Mashtronic signed their productions to several of the best labels including Bedrock and Global Underground. There have been numerous compilation appearances and a strong remix portfolio; John Digweed, Pole Folder, Mason and D-Nox & Beckers were among those given a reworking in the duo’s forward-thinking progressive style. Their own Mashtronic and Restart labels also released an excellent selection of material from artists like Nick Muir and Pole Folder.
With such strong credentials behind him, Henri’s career as a solo artist under the name Cid Inc hit the ground running (the name is a cheeky reference to his early years spent raving to acid house.) Starting with the ‘Sister’ EP on Dyami in 2008, Henri has put together an impressive body of work including releases, collaborations and remixes on labels like Baroque, Inkfish, Tribal Vision, microCastle, Afterglow, AlterImage, Sudbeat, Mcgroove, Flow Vinyl, Iboga and Epsilon Trax. The word prolific hardly does it justice with over 40 Cid Inc original productions and remixes to date, and it’s not surprising Beatport selected Henri as one of their Progressive House Artists of 2009 alongside other great names like Charlie May, Guy J and Pole Folder.
In October 2009 Henri launched Replug Records dedicated to releasing both his own and music from other artists. Cid Inc tracks include ‘Defrost’, ‘Cloudberries’, ‘Filaments’, Caustic’ and ‘Blizzard’ alongside contributions from Rich Curtis, Deepfunk and more. There’s also been the ‘Replugged Vol. 1’ compilation, and Henri has a keen eye for signing new talent.
It’s hard to single out releases which best define the Cid Inc sound, but worthy contenders include ‘Spacegulls’ on Afterglow with a superb Henry Saiz remix, ‘Magnify’ on AlterImage and the ‘Our Benefactors’ EP in collaboration with Lank on microCastle. On the remix front, Henri’s version of Jim Rivers’ ‘Black Keys’ on Mcgroove has come in for particular attention. Pretty much every Cid Inc hits the upper reaches of the Beatport progressive chart, and Hernan Cattaneo, John Digweed, Nick Warren and Henry Saiz are just a few of the DJs who regularly include Henri’s tracks in their sets.
Increased recognition of his productions over the last two years has provided Henri with a busy DJ diary and he regularly plays all over the world. Highlights from the last 12 months include Exit in Lithuania, the Volt Club in Greece, the Teleportation Festival and Fakel beach party in Russia, and Bahrein in Argentina. August 2011 saw Henri return to the famous B 018 club in Beirut where he played for over four hours, and future bookings include the Spirit of Colours festival in Mexico and the John Digweed after party in Helsinki.
Henri’s music is particularly popular with clubbers in South and Central America, partly due to the consistent support of Hernan Cattaneo, and because his fusion of progressive and techno is very popular in the clubs there. Following a successful tour of Argentina in September 2011, a return visit is already planned for 2012 as well as dates in Brazil and Ecuador. Trips to London, Germany, Spain, Russia, India, Canada and the USA are already being lined up for the coming months as word spreads that Henri’s skills behind the decks equal those in the studio. He is also part of the recently launched Global Underground World Tours roster.

Have joined the strava group.

Just followed all the strava Hijack crew.

Managed to commute 3 times this week, getting back into the strava caning between Bath/Bristol, highlight of the day

Good luck with that - some fuckwit has flagged the entire cyclepath and all the segments along it as 'hazardous'

Just after I had a cracking run along it on Friday as well, but before I uploaded ...
To be fair, racing against the clock on a busy path shared with pedestrians, children and dog walkers is somewhat dickish. Tackle some proper hills if you're competitive.

if your competitive - race

HENRY SAIZ (Bedrock/Natura Sonoris/Balance)
- DJ Mag Spain Awards 2012 Winner of Best Label, Best Live Act, Best Compilation. DEEJAY Awards Winner of 'Best of 2011'
SAM BALL (Saved/Intec/Form)

JIM RIVERS (Intec/Platform)
ADAM KENT (Baroque)

It’s 12years since we first put on our first event at the 250 capacity Bar Latino, the cavernous venue and its terrace witnessed 4years of weekly parties, and now well over a decade later that was only a third of our existence. Since then we have held parties all over the city, Blue Mountain, Timbuk2, Motion, Native, Basement45 and its current home at Dojo.
In the past year we have welcomed some amazing djs to an intimate venue, our amazing crowd, headliners have included Darren Emerson, Jody, Hybrid, Meat Katie, Tom Middleton, Paul Jackson, Quivver, Luis Junior, Jamie Anderson, Leon Alexander, Nick Harris and all our support djs WhompDjs – Rob Helps, Cornelius, Riddle as well as Jack Priest and Mel Spears.
In the past few months the new radio show has really taken off, with the first hour hosted by Stu Wilkinson and Adam Kent and the second hour, a guest mix. This gives us another avenue to promote the music we push.

For the 12th Birthday we have really got something very special. A fine producer, Henry Saiz is no pretender or rock dj, hes one of the most prolific and most professional artists out there.
His Natura Sonoris label has been putting some incredible music out there, he has been picked up by the likes of Bedrock and Renaissance, this is an great opportunity to see a musician of the future.
We are also very pleased to have Sam Ball return after his incredible appearance back in 2011, it was so good we knew he would fit perfectly for the late slot and keep everyone pumped. Keeping them pimped though we welcome Jack Priest kicking things off in his empathetic style.
Cementing it all together we have our ever ready residents in Jim Rivers, Stuart Wilkinson, Adam Kent and Dave Kirik.

Henry Saiz Biography
Henry Saiz is the creator of a style that is a combination of his love for all things electronic with a deep passion for art. His music, as well as his work as a sound designer for film and TV has always been marked as forward thinking in approach and groundbreaking upon delivery. Henry’s sound refuses to fall into a singular category, he takes in influence on many different levels and incorporates this into his live and DJ sets by forging a perfect balance of Electronica, Disco, House and Techno.
Henry’s first productions were released through the highly regarded Global Underground and Paradigma Musik imprints. These releases were instantly noticed by house giant John Digweed, which led to creating one of the biggest tracks of 2009, which was also named as Pete Tong’s Essential New Tune. Released on Bedrock, Henry’s remix of Guy J’s “Lamur” was regarded by critics and DJ’s alike as “the track of the year”. Following the success of this remix, yet another giant label; Renaissance commissioned the release of “Artificial Paradises EP” and “Madre Noche EP” in 2009 and “The Rider EP” in 2010.
Not a man to be content with such success, Henry whilst producing some of the biggest tracks around has also simultaneously been developing his live show. Using a combination of the Akai APC-40 controlling Ableton Live, Access Virus TI Synth and an iPod Touch, Henry has complete control over his meticulously created and fully original edits, loops and tracks. The integration of these techniques into his highly acclaimed podcast “The Labyrinth” and both live and DJ environments has allowed Henry to show his true potential in building sets that strike a chord with audiences. His rising reputation has earned Henry the honour of being asked to produce Balance Music’s 019 compilation. Following on from the likes of Timo Maas, Joris Voorn, Will Saul and Agoria, Henrys addition to this world-renowned mix series has more than lived up to expectations and has set a new benchmark in depth and quality.
Whilst being a producer, DJ and live performer is paramount to Henry, another element close to his heart is to find and develop new talent. Henry started his own label, Natura Sonoris (Nature Of Sound) in 2008 and it has become a platform for not only his own productions but also for that of artists such as Damabiah, Cora Novoa, Soundexile, 7thKey, Dosem and Van Hai to name but a few. The focus of the label is to connect electronic music with art and life. This is reflected in all aspects of each release from the music itself down to the artwork, a formula that has been received extremely well and now has a big following worldwide.
Henry has now taken his DJ and live shows around the globe, performing at venues in Europe, Asia, South America and Australia. He has also been a part of festivals such a Sónar and Creamfields among others and continues to be one of the most popular up-and-coming Spanish artists of his generation. His constant growth has enabled him to spread his music to new audiences and is, without doubt, one of the bright new talents on the global electronic music scene.

Interval sprints between traffic lights while commuting is my poor-man's version of that.  I did manage my first 100+km ride in on the weekend, which was ace if a little breezy.

I saw you as i entered the B-B cycle path from the jolly sailor

That was at about 85km, just trying to drag out the ride to 100km by taking the long route back from Marshfield.  By that point we were somewhat wind-swept and trying to get back before the heavens opened.  As it was, we got the the far side of Saltford and got hit with a god-awful hale-storm, which was nice.

I've got another 100km jaunt planned for Saturday 9th if anyone fancies it.

Looks good, will be up for that in a month or so if you're out again  Two Thumbs

I plan to be out as much as possible so I'll keep you posted.

I will be out with you soon, my last ride with you I puked just after i decided to turn back home. I wasnt in a good way after that techno night at the Exchange..
Will be on form soon!

Food at Start the Bus is amazing if you are in town and really hungry.

Went to Casa Mexicana last weekend - that was awesome! Not open during the day though.

Casa Mexicana rocks, go for the lamb shank!
