1  General / The Forum / Re: Brand new music studio in Central Bristol available for studio share and hire on: November 04, 2013, 02:41:24
15 quid for a mixdown??!??

ID I think we might be on 2 different pages. 15 covers a track being mixed, as in a track being handed to us and mixed to a professional standard, not an additional 15 as part of the session that a track has been recorded in, that, just like anywhere, is included in the price of the session,

Hey guys,
thanks for the interest.
1984 / Snoo - There is a vocal booth, and various treated wall sections to bounce the monitor sound properly.
ID - As far as mixdowns, yep it's 15, but if there's more than 1 track it goes down.
Steve  - We're getting an electronic drumkit next month. There's MIDI keys, and a whole bunch of percussion.
As far as drums i have a bunch of drummers who can record live drum tracks if needed.
you're always welcome to come along, have a cuppa and check the space out :-)
Please let me know if you would like to know anything else, or give me a call - 07793726363
As the studio is non-for-profit any money that goes into the studio goes straight back into helping young people develop their skills.

Easy B'Tol,
Thank you for your help bro. They're some great suggestions and i'll definitely contact them.
Any suggestions with the department to contact with BCC?
I wondered about Princes Trust but thought not due to the reason you mentioned, but i'll definitely try them too.
Safe bro,

To the OP - it would be worthwhile hitting up the Princes Trust for this - particularly on the back of crowd funding. Although you might be outside of the prerequisite age range, the fact that you will be working with young people makes you eligible for funding. Offsetting against crowd funding also means you should contact BCC, as they may be able to supply you with no interest business loans or similar for the start up.

Good luck!

Do you work for the council?
5  General / The Forum / Kaleidoscope - Weekly LIVE Funk, Soul & Hip Hop (SUPPORTED BY PASSION) on: September 12, 2013, 00:56:33
Welcome to Kaleidoscope, a new night created by Street Soul supported by Passion Radio and raising money for the Bristol Sickle Cell & Thallassaemia Support Group.
Offering a beautiful blend of Funk / Soul / Hip Hop and more, Kaleidoscope is set to be a beacon of independent light across Bristol, introducing, established and up-coming performers, sharing the same stage, merged together by resident track master DJ Mutley of Ujima Radio and hosted by Vice of The Delegates Of Rhyme and Genius Collective.

Each week will offer a different vibe, and to take things up a notch, this week we have some true Kaleidoscopic vibes...

The Paradimes
We are seriously excited to introduce the mighty Ska / Reggae outfit The Paradimes to the Kaleidoscope stage. Formerly The Stiff Neck Fools, the band have reformed, this time with a horn section and percussion and have been bringing their amazing vibes around the country.
Check out them rehearsing Rumble in the Jungle:

Ed Geater
This guy is truly special. With a humble attitude, he effortlessly combines Beatboxing and Hip Hop influences with guitar led indie acoustic aesthetics. With his Loop Pedal building the tracks, and his smooth vocal tones building perfectly alongside occasional guitar slaps and taps, this is set to be an incredible set.
Check out this beautiful acoustic version of Catch, filmed in Warley Woods:

Miss Twist
A taleneted MC and youth worker, who switches between double time grime flows and classic Hip Hop lyrics. With an interesting take on life, Miss Twist's rare live performance brings with it the opportunity to take in some positive, thoughtful and well crafted lyrics that will show Kaleidscope how proper Hip Hop sounds.
Check Miss Twist's South Blessed "That Time" video:

DJ Mutley
And of course we have the awesome UJIMA RADIO 98fm DJ Mutley (Joe Laflin) Our resident DJ. Check out his weekly show on Ujima each Thursday morning from 10-12am alongside Tash - www.ujimaradio.com

The night is brought to you by Street Soul Productions and is supported by Passion Radio and Ujima Radio DJs,

Hi there,
It's a community funded project, so the funding comes from Kick Starter.
You can put in as much or as little as you like, and there are rewards as a thank you for your help....

11  General / The Forum / Community fundraising for a new music project in Bristol for young people... on: August 31, 2013, 00:49:54
so the Kick Starter funding needs a big KICK!!!!

PLEASE can those of you who know me, have worked with me, or just believe in the importance of youth work, just take a look, and pit ANYTHING you can towards this project!
Thank you SO much.

The aim is to create a 10 track original music project with talented young people between 11-19 (ideally). The project will take place at Street Soul Studios, a new studio set up in the centre of Bristol, specialising in vocal recording, mixing, mastering and more. The project will include creating videos, photoshoots, promo plans and a launch party celebrating the young peoples achievements.

Please take a look and help if you can.
Peace, blessings and thanks,
Vice / James

12  General / The Forum / Calling all soul/ acoustic & stripped funk/ acoustic hip hop acts for new night! on: August 14, 2013, 22:19:11
To all of the Bristol / relatively local folk...I have been asked to set up a weekly soul / acoustic and stripped funk / acoustic hip hop night on Thursdays at Copper Jacks on Corn Street.

I am hunting for acts who are up for playing for some promotion, some money, some drinks and some good times! The sets will be filmed, photographed and audio recorded. The night will include Ujima's DJ Mutley ( Joe Laflin) & is free entry.

if you (or someone you know) is interested please get in touch. The nights will begin on the 29th August and weekly from there on. Slots are filling fast, and really want to get great line ups every time.

I have been part of a touring soul / funk 8 piece for 3 years, so i understand what bands expect / want, so please rest assured there will be no tricks here! Just good music!
Looking forward to hearing from you!
James / Vice

Hey guys,
my name's vice / James.
I recently relocated from Birmingham to Bristol, and have setup Street Soul Studios, which is located near Fishponds. I'm experienced in Hip Hop, Funk, Soul, Jazz, Dubstep, and much more. Street Soul Studios is fundamentally a session suite, ideal for recording multi-tracked vocals and instruments including horns, strings, bass, guitar, keys and more. In addition I have a deck and Serato setup ready to record DJ sets, podcasts or just to use as a practice space. My rates are very competitive, mainly because I love music, and want to work with as many people as possible. The studio is clean, comfortable, has WIFI, and is in a nice secure location.

I offer engineering, mixing, mastering and remixing services alongside full production. If you have an idea of how you want your music to sound, then bring along some reference tracks and i'll help you to create the sound you are looking for.

If you're interested, please give me a shout. and I'll try my best to suit your needs and budget.
