1  General / The Forum / Re: New phone thread on: April 03, 2013, 17:12:04
I got a new phone this weekend. Here's the story:

I don't like iphones.
So i had to chose from HTC ONE X, S3, SONY XPERIA ZL, NOKIA WHATEVER.

I chose SONY XPERIAL ZL. I was verrrry skeptical about it at first, but after some research, reviews, etc.... i decided to take a risk and go for it. And it's fucking amazing! Wasn't expecting it to be that good. Only good experience so far, no disappointments yet.

This should be great!

Who's warming up for him?
And what time is he on?

 LIGHTAH! LIGHTAH! LIGHTAH!
3  General / The Forum / Re: Looking for a ROOM on: March 19, 2013, 22:04:17
Need one againnn.

From April 12th.

Walking distance from the centre.
Anyone? Anything?

Kraymon - did you find what you were looking for?
4  General / The Forum / Re: Bristol Designer on: March 04, 2013, 19:08:36
BTW do you know of any local designer forums / blogs / etc... that i could send my bristoldesigner.co.uk to?
5  General / The Forum / Re: Bristol Designer on: March 04, 2013, 18:44:41
yup, they told me not to use any of that in my portfolio.. maybe it's just Lithuanian rules. i find that strange as well, but i wouldn't want to argue with the hands that feed me Wink

Just print it out and take it along - they are never going to know.
I definitely wouldn't send a PDF because thats easy to send on!

also checkout bristol media website for job etc:  http://www.bristolmedia.co.uk/  and   http://swcreativejobs.co.uk/

exactly!

i am checking swcreativejobs all the time, probably the best website for this kind of stuff along with artsjobs and obviously gumtree.

again - really appreciate all your help and tips!

7  General / The Forum / Re: Bristol Designer on: March 04, 2013, 14:45:14
thanks for the tips guys!

the thing is that i did all my corporate/"serious" stuff while working/freelancing for agencies/studios and i can't show them in my portfolio as they are property and officially a work done by the studio, not me Wink so i can only show that stuff in private...

i currently freelance, but i don't like working from home and not knowing how much will i earn next month. i prefer full-time tbh.
8  General / The Forum / Re: Bristol Designer on: March 03, 2013, 22:04:04
so few months have passed and i still have trouble finding a nice design job.

anyone know of any positions open now? heard someone complain about their slow designer?

lemme know!
9  General / The Forum / Re: touristy question on: March 03, 2013, 21:20:22
Thanks for all your suggestions!
We ended up staying in town as the weather wasn't really beach friendly...

Fingers crossed next weekend will be sunny!
10  General / The Forum / touristy question on: March 02, 2013, 22:00:23

Yeah i know them, Bertie is my buddy! I played there last week.
13  General / The Forum / Re: Tropical / Global Bass on: February 15, 2013, 19:03:35
If you find one, I could bring around 100 people.

or less?
14  General / The Forum / Tropical / Global Bass on: February 15, 2013, 18:09:55
Hey,

Is there any Tropical/Global Bass nights in Bristol?
Or Juke/Jersey/Bmore/etc.... related?

I know there are Dancehall/Bashment nights, it's dope, but i'm looking for something more eclectic.
15  General / The Forum / Re: Looking for a ROOM on: February 06, 2013, 11:50:41
Good luck with your hunt mate and sorry it couldnt work out with us.
It's a lots more expensive these days but it's good that you are now looking about 400-500 as you should be able to get something decent and suitable.

Thanks Kraymon! Fingers crossed we're gonna find something good soon Smiley
16  General / The Forum / Re: Looking for a ROOM on: February 06, 2013, 01:31:14

17  General / The Forum / Re: Looking for a ROOM on: February 05, 2013, 11:15:05
Lady - Thanks! Been checking that for the past 2 months Smiley

Zat0ichi - yeah i saw quite a few nice places, but either i was few hours too late or they didn't reply. We're arriving on Thursday, the search should become much easier...

But i thought Hijack would be a nice place to ask as most people here are involved in music.
18  General / The Forum / Re: Looking for a ROOM on: February 05, 2013, 10:26:41
no, 400-500 both for a room.
19  General / The Forum / Re: Looking for a ROOM on: February 01, 2013, 16:34:54
Thanks for not killing me for bumping the thread and thanks for your advice!

The thing is that we're a couple looking for a room and that makes it 10x harder to find as there's only 2-3 new places which accept couples per day (i check gumtree ~5 times a day:). And most of them are way too far! We're looking for a place with walking distance to city centre and stokes croft. We're moving to your amazing city so it would be a shame to sit at home in the evening instead of going out for at least a walk or 8 pints!
Maybe it's because we're not in town yet, we're just arriving next week.. Anyway - much harder to find than i expected!

We're looking to spend around 350-400 incl. bills. Prefer less of course Smiley
20  General / The Forum / Re: Looking for a ROOM on: February 01, 2013, 13:51:35
I'm starting to worry! So hard to find a proper room for a couple in Bristol.

Sorry for bumping this thread, but it's the last time...
ANYONE got a room in Stokes Croft/Central for a couple?

To make this thread more interesting i attach a funny picture

above all if you do make a reasonable go of it try and remember the people who gave you your first shouts..people don't like ungrateful selfish bigheads

^^^ that is really important!
24  General / The Forum / Re: PROMOTING MYSELF!!!! on: January 24, 2013, 15:59:48
be prepared to be playing the warm up set to an empty room...

People are afraid to play warmup sets and think they are 'for losers'. But warm-up is one of the hardest things to pull off RIGHT. Good warm-up gets people dancing and gets them in the mood as bad warm-up can fuck up the WHOLE night.

Yep, warm up is not the easiest thing to do, you can't just pile on the bangers as you might get one or two dancing and then where do you go. The main problem usually is that most people are too shy to have a good time until they've had a drink or 5.

Plus, very few people are comfortable dancing on an empty dancefloor... you feel like a spectacle, even if the only person there to see you is the DJ!

True! That's when dimmed warm lights and few braver tipsy girls do the magic Smiley

ROOM - where are you?

39  General / The Forum / Re: Trap music... on: January 07, 2013, 20:19:36
I know this may be unpopular to some, but to me, "dance" music by its very nature is disposable, especially since the internet age has meant it is all about getting the new new.

Dubstep more so than any genre had an emphasis on getting THE newest dubs, and then the same songs are forgotten a month later. This has transgressed a lot of other genres imho.

Some of the best DJs in dance music have the ability of playing a track thats 20 years old alongside one that was written last week, I completely disagree that its about the new new (look at the revival in house/techno over the last 2 years as case in point).

Also, some of the best dubs in dubstep are still cherished years later, they can be impossible to actually get your hands on (like the early DMZs), and sound so much better than some of the tripe written last week.

Your sweeping generalisations are forgetting that its not only teh kidz that listen to dance music... some of us have been doing it for years and continue to fly the flag long after the initial hypemachine moves onto something else.

Amen.
40  General / The Forum / Looking for a ROOM on: January 07, 2013, 14:01:25
Hey Hijackers,

ME + my GF are moving to Bristol on the 7th of February and we are looking for a double room somewhere central or around (BS1, BS2, BS6.....).
I am a producer/dj (www.soundcloud.com/boyfriend) and a graphic designer by day www.vytisgruzdys.com
We are perfect room mates - clean, tidy, easy going... PM or email boyfriend AT clubtropi.com for more info about us and the situation.

Anyone has a spare room? Know anyone moving out? Want to join forces and find the new best place to live?

Thanks!

Hey HIJACK,

My name is Vytis and i go by the name BOYFRIEND.
I DJ and Produce for quite some time now. Check my soundcloud www.soundcloud.com/boyfriend
I released on labels such as Diabluma Sound, Senseless, Mad Decent, Discobelle, Man recordings, etc.....

In 2011 i DJ'ed in Bristol and fell in love with the city and that's why me + my GF are relocating to Bristol early February. I desperately needed a change and this sounds like a perfect plan!

During the day i'm a Graphic Designer. Doing lots of corporate and boring stuff at the moment tho... i LOVE flyer design and anything music related, you can say it's my speciality. Check www.vytisgruzdys.com for my latest music related stuff, won't bother you with corporate stuff...

And if anyone has got a spare double room to rent somewhere central - hit me up at boyfriend@clubtropi.com !

Nice to e-meet you all, this looks like a great community!
