About the same place you are selling my CDs for me Two Thumbs

Seriously, sorry if my throwaway remark offended you, but you're not actually suggesting that some random guy who had the temerity to suggest your night may not have been promoted that well should remedy the situation by becoming your flyer bitch... are you?! Undecided
6  General / The Forum / Re: 12 Riot vans n glos road... (Cheltenham Rd Riot) on: June 20, 2011, 12:29:26
Well the kids have got it in their head they have to reclaim the streets or some mental bullshit. I think its good that we live in a world of changing power balances where the will of a group of people can threaten and ultimately topple an establishment but its a hideous abuse of power to use that leverage for something as poxy as a disruptive party in the middle of a busy street. Can't they go do something worthwhile with their youthful energy instead of being destined to be yet another passionate generation that eventually grows up and gets jobs as lawyers defending the status quo they used to rail against? Or maybe I'm reading too much politics into this and the reality is these guys are just morons with fuck all better to do.

Probably the latter... obviously there's exceptions, but going back to the riots (again - sorry!!) I personally reckon the vast majority of those involved were just up for a madness. Certainly the 14 year old kiddies didn't have some anti-capitalist agenda, they just wanted to bottle police

Police turned up, but decided it wasn't worth risking another riot by trying to break it up, so just pissed off and let it be.

This is what I hate most of all. Its so popular to blame the police when trouble kicks off that my neighbourhood doesn't get policed at all unless someone's life is directly at risk. I'm all for organising a street party but it just isn't cricket to close a road without prior notice so you can have a stupid drug party with shit music and complete lack of respect for anyone who isn't a ketamised fucking cunt. I mean seriously what is the world coming to.

So the crusties now officially run Cheltenham Rd? Damn

It would appear that way based on this weekend gone. Don't get me wrong they're peaceful and all and I suppose they could honestly claim "we aren't hurting anybody" (except the poor bloke who got his bonnet danced on) but in my day this sort of shindig happened down the woods where it didn't stop a main traffic artery or involve speaker stacks less than 10m from someone's bedroom window.

Yeah free parties aint really my scene, but have NO problem with them in woods/warehouses (away from people's houses basically)... this sounds like a pisstake though

Looks good, will probably pop in... but yet again, a hip hop night with negligible promotion in Bristol Doh!

Been plenty...

Dedicated radio shows, flyer drops at upfest/WoC and other such "urban events, seen loads of posters my side of town too.

But the comment does reign true for most. Smiley

I've seen ONE poster in the Bearpit (and this topic)... which isn't particularly clear from a distance either. Considering I live in the alleged cultural quarter ( Bad Teeth ) that's not really enough... same as the Mystro show last month... ONE poster - on a bin on City Road.

Feel I should respond to this. Rather than 1 poster for the Mystro show I put up 350, Also 5000 flyers (half through Dont Panic) were handed out. If you live in Stokes Croft and didn't see more then I'm very surprised. If you find this effort substandard then I apologize, but what with working 60 hours a week and pretty much organizing everything myself, finding time to do any more was difficult. I'm pleased to say though Koast- you can make a difference here! feel free to come out flyering with me any day this week to avoid such 'negligible' promotion. By the way for the Mystro night (our opening night) we sold 165 tickets (to a venue that holds 225) on a Thursday.

As your night seems to have been pretty successful I'm not sure why you've taken my comment so personally... also, seeing as this was your first night, have you considered that you might have been unlucky with the timing of your poster runs? Seen plenty of people do a good load of posters only for Sita to roll past 10 minutes later. I'm not the only person to have said this by the way... I know a lot of potential punters only found out about it via Mystro putting it on Twitter for example.

The fact is, compared to the efforts of the DnB/dubstep promoters, that hip hop shows are not as well promoted. Which is a shame, there's some really good local acts that aren't getting the exposure their talent deserves (in a way that their counterparts in other scenes are) and some good 'big name' bookings that people are missing out on cos they don't know it's happening!

Back to the topic at hand... Saturday was a good turn out, and strong performances from the Bastard Sunz, Twizzy & Jinxsta.

So was this party on Friday actually in Telepathic Heights? Or was it just a big house party (cos the building next door isn't a squat, is it?) that people are desperately trying to link into all the stupidness in April? Seemed to have died down by the time I staggered home from Sureskank at 4ish

Script Script I've never quite got the hype, apart from a couple tunes on Madvillainy & DangerDoom... oh and the old KMD stuff. But I'm 99.9999% sure that was actually Doom on stage - right build, and sounded like him. And no, definitely wasn't miming. I think this is just bullshit

Funnily enough my brother is one of them activist types and lives in vancouver - he read about the stokes croft riots and saw an interview with that guy that runs the peoples republic of stokes croft. My bro wants him to do a documentary on how he managed to get the community to work together/rise up or whatever, and wants to show it in vancouver... so watch this space for bristol influenced pan-atlantic tesco riots!

oh for god's sake.

I've not seen any Posters, however online promos been good - definitely reaching as this looks big  Tomato Slayer!

Really? Can't speak for anyone else, but imo online promo (presume you mean Facebook) is dead... at any one time I have 150-200 pending event invites, there is not enough time in the day for me to check them all... even events I'm playing at!

Posters and (albeit to a lesser extent for small night) flyers are STILL where it's at

Anyway, I'm done, didn't mean to come across overly-negative but it is a shame that hip hop in Bristol is 1) so scarce and 2) often badly promoted when it does happen Two Thumbs

Is this Feedback this retarded in person?

Look man, this aint about me, this is about a famous person being accused of an assault that usually wouldnt make it anywhere near a court if there wasnt a famous person involved, seemingly because the guys famous he's automatically guilty, have you tried to report a crime to the police recently? they really don't want to know...

Woman gets pushed downstairs and you think the only reason it's got to court is because Roni fuckin Size did it  Laugh joker.

Oh and yes I did, someone was getting the shit kicked out of them down the road from me, called the police they turned up in 2 minutes.

Script If someone gets seriously injured and it wasn't investigated properly or taken seriously... well, that'd be a real travesty. You're letting your fanboy instincts cloud your judgement. People can be talented and be cunts you know. Also nobody here has assumed anyone's guilt, just made a load of shit puns based on song titles. Whereas you've come in all guns blazing with a bunch of assumptions about his ex!

She's obviously a hottie hottie with nothing to lose, he's obviously a Mercury Prize winner with everything to lose (and judging by this thread a queue of people lining up to have a pop[though this is Hijack so surprise is minimal]). If I was him I'd feel proper hard done by, stupid bitch.

I hope he gets off, without appearing to be the chauvinist pig that i most definitely am not surely being thrown down the stairs by your partner when being dumped is surely just one of those things that more often than not, could happen, thats what happens when emotions run high, thats what happens when people cant even land on their own foot correctly (dumb bitch), let him off I say, legend.  Smashed

Either I'm missing a lot of puns or this post is completely fucking mental.

mental because...?? mental because its my opinion? mental because, its not the opinion of a sheep? mental because, its by someone who has absolutely no interest in who your 'real life' non-existance is?

Mental because its defending somebody who if he hadn't ever hit the big time half you wannabe musical bigtimers would still be breast feeding somewhere in the home counties??

Personally, I've been pushed down the stairs by a soon to be ex, maybe its just me but I just thought it par for the course, yeh if it was someone with something to lose and I was a massive cunt I'd take her to court, and lie through my teeth to fuck her up, but I'm not, she wasn't and its just a bit immoral...

Seriously Danny, what the fuck?! Even if you actually believe all that, it's one of those times where your opinion should probably be kept to yourself

Jungle List

This is the violent clan of the bunch, with their afro-angry drum beats and zulu dance moves. Mostly made up of “Yellows” and blacks, Jungle Lists goto these parties to stir up trouble, cause fights and rob other ravers. This should not be a surprise as we know communist Asians and blacks due the same thing in American society.

A Jungle List is known for liking what is called “Drummed and Base” music and are known for their pot and meth addictions. The term “Drummed and Base” comes from the fact that they like fast African style “tripped pops” music and smoke meth or “basing” while dancing like angry silver-back gorillas.

Each Jungle List group has a leader, also known as a “Rudeboy” or “Bom Bom Cloud”. The leader gets to pick which rave party the crew with go to and what type of dance battles they will perform.

I think more education in society about drugs and decriminalisation is what would solve stuff like this.

 Script Script Script

Drug policy of the last 50 years has done nothing but amplify the negative effects of drug use. I honestly think we're only 5 years away from decriminalisation. Maybe less.

Lol are you serious?! In response to an earlier post, "A Clockwork Orange" was never banned.

Most common movie misconception evarz.

Semi true, Kubrick banned it himself until he died.

He withdrew it. During a viewing he attended there were cheers from the audience during the violent scenes so he pulled it.

I thought it was because there were reports of alleged copycat incidents, and he felt responsible?

3. Noodle - things don't have to hurt you physically to be a real risk to people.

Yes, a campaign of mental torment or having something horrible shown to you whilst your eyes are propped open Clockwork Orange style could well fuck you up. It is absolutely beyond the capabilities of cinematography to cause that sort of mental scarring without aforementioned intervention from a shady fucker who forces you to endure it. I 100% don't buy at all that cinema however brutal can cause "real harm" to an adult viewer of sound mind. If you'd like to debate that one out starting from the ground up then I'd be happy to engage cos honestly I think I might be missing something that everyone else knows.  Undecided

Well, depends what you mean by of sound mind I suppose. If you're a bit fragile anyway then I think really horrible cinema probably can fuck you up quite a bit. That's not to say it should be censored - just make it very clear what people are in for. I can't imagine anyone going to watch the Human Centipede is that naive, unless their research skills are severely lacking and they were expecting some kind of children's fantasy. But, as an example, I know a few people who have watched A Serbian Film and said they really wished they hadn't.

Jesus, that sounds seriously fucked up. The synopsis alone made me feel a bit sick

The film was shown at an adults only screening at the Sitges Film Festival in Spain during October 2010; as a result the festival's director Ángel Sala has been charged with exhibiting child pornography by the Spanish prosecutor who decided to take action in May 2011 after receiving a complaint from a Roman Catholic organization over a pair of scenes involving the rapes of a young child and a newborn

Highlights

The Streets - first time I'd seen him live, and was very impressed
Chase & Status - yes, it's a bit cheesy, and basically a glorified DJ set, but it works!
Lee Scratch Perry
Pinch
Gemmy & Guido - both played really good sets, just way too early unfortunately
Spillz (obviously lol) - apparently sound was shocking, but I really enjoyed playing anyway, good vibes in there
Blue Mountain on Saturday night - Jakes, Mensah, Seiji & Peverelist killed it

Lowlights

The food! Genuinely disgusting
£4 for a can? Fuck that, thank god we had a rider, but feel bad for everyone who was stuck paying that all day
The layout/general soulless vibe (not the actual vibe when acts were playing, just generally)
Example
Doom - combination of rain & shit sound ruined it... wish I'd stayed in the tent to watch Roots Manuva really

In conclusion, it was alright, but the high points were actually really good. Also, as much as the too-cool-for-school underground contingent weren't happy, or were just a bit indifferent, looking at 6,000 odd people going mad when Annie Mac & C+S were playing on Saturday evening that must kinda count as job done?

Up until this week I thought Hijack's response had been surprisingly positive.  And I personally couldn't care less if there are now 2 stages not 3, just means less potential clashes and more atmosphere IMO.

I think it was mostly indifferent tbh.

The line up is a strange one - pairing UMC's with Example on Sat for instance just seems mental... Sunday line up I a killer though as has been stated.

I hope it goes well, but I can't help but feel people are going to be a little short changed with all the downsizing occurring and transferring of artists to after parties.

UMC's would have made more sense on the Sunday, but then I guess with acts like that you get them when you can... although it's all hypothetical now as they're not coming.

I think with ticket sales not staggeringly good, downsizing is probably for the best... better to have people bunched in less areas if you're gonna have any vibes. And as far as I can tell, it's only local/support acts moved to after-parties, so UMC's aside, people will generally got what they paid for.

I'm looking forward to it anyway Cool

Personally I can't think of a bigger waste of time than getting on a plane and travelling to a vibrant and interesting city like Amsterdam only to spend all your time getting ripped off for coffee and cookies just so you can smoke weed all day in someone else's gaff.

Script I love Amerstam and have had two lovely trips there without so much as a puff of a spliff... saying that I imagine the advantage of smoking weed in Amsterdam would be the added capacity it would give you for eating all the lush cakes and pastries on offer.

Lol fat bastard I am, reckon I spent as much on cakes as I did weed last time I was there. Olliebollen are the shit Love

I did actually say about a week ago that a stage had been cancelled but eeryone chose to completely ignore that piece of information I leaked straight from the source and slate me for having an opinion.

The organisers of this festival are blatantly on the blag

Which stage and on what day?

I can't actually tell you which stage in particular, all I know is one of the three stages they have was cancelled about two weeks ago and all of the local artists were meant to be getting axed

As a local artist who is booked for both days, this is the first I've heard of it. Either you need to be a bit more specific, or stop spreading bullshit. I'd like to think the artists themselves would know about this before it became idle gossip on forums!

Really?  Undecided

Script Script Don't understand the hype one little bit... then again, I saw a copy of FHM's 100 Sexiest Women 2011 the other day... half of them were average at best, and most of the genuinely fit ones were nowhere near the top 10 Doh!
