5  Food for your Ears / The Desk / Looking for a cellist to help me replace samples. on: October 06, 2012, 14:01:49
Hi,

I'm looking to find a cellist who would like to contribute to a couple of electronic/cinematic type tracks I've been working on. I'm currently using Ableton sample sets but would like to get a rawer feel to the strings.

Link below.

Cheers.

hire a car and go searching for stuff theres some amazing castles on the outskirts of Prague or get the Train...

This place

is about an hour train journey outside of prague.  Amazing views from the top of the castle.

However you did ask for clubbing!

Maybe I'm alone in this, but I really don't give a fuck.

Your not alone.

I went to ashton Court for the first time last year.  I paid 8 for a days entertainment. I didn't even think twice about buying my drinks on site.

I don't have any past experience of Ashton Court to compare it with but I had a  fucking great day out and saw a lot of great stuff.

Some of you don't realise how lucky you are to have something like this right on your door step.

All this whining about 'it used to be like this' or 'it used to have this'  get over it!! things change!!

if you don't like it don't go.  Plenty of other people will.

9  Food for your Ears / Hijackers' Tunes and Mixes / Re: New tune - Hoof (dnb) on: June 14, 2007, 08:38:26

Vocal samples at the beginning from Angel Heart?

As for the tune........

It all works quite well accept the low subby bass doesn't seem powerful enough.  It seems over powered by the drums (which sound chunky!)

I'm not having a pop at your tune, Just  making constructive comments.   Two Thumbs

11  Food for your Ears / The Desk / Re: Microkorg on: June 11, 2007, 16:42:17
Am looking to purchase a synth, probably a Microkorg as these get a hella fine write up everywhere I look, and seems as close to an analogue synth as possible without actually being one, what with that killer Korg DSP in it... I've played it in shops too, feels lovely...

Anyone had much experience with these bad boys?

did you get one of these?

I saw one in that second hand place opposite the Prom on Gloucester Road for 170. Fully boxed.  Bargain!

Just speak to the council and you will find out for sure.

Unless there is someone in the legal profession on this board you are only ever going to have opinions not fact.

Have a look at this.

Now I'm aware this is a London Issue but the bit about 'out of hours permission' over the weekend might be of use to you?

Maybe contact the council and see if they can do anything?

22  General / The Forum / CDs for sale on: May 31, 2007, 18:44:05
I'm moving back to London next month and have started to 'de-junk'.  I'm mp3ing all my cds as I don't want to lug them around with me any more.

This isn't a thread about the merits of the real thing or how I'm doing myself an injustice mp3ing them.

I just want to see if I can sell them to individuals first or at least find out if anyone wants to come round for a root through them.  They will end up on Gloucester Road eventually so you can pay more for them there if you like.

I will charge 4 for an album. maybe do a discount for a bulk buy.

I have a pretty eclectic taste in music so it's all over the shop.  Remember it's CDs not vinyl!

A little selector......

A Few Plaid Albums.
A couple of Black Dog Albums
Mastercuts- Electro,House,P funk, Funk
Bad Company- Inside the Machine
4 Hero - Two pages
Wagon Christ - Throbbing pouch
Pantera- Vulger Display of Power
Metallica - Black Album
Major Force  Box Set (6)
Andy C - night Life vol 1
Artcore Vol 3 (Shadow boxing -Doc Scott is on there)
Public Enemy - It Takes a nation etc
The Politicians - Phycha Soula - Funkadelic
Zero 7 - Simple Things
New Yoyorican Soul
EZ Rollers - Drumfunk Hooligans 1&2/ Weekend World/ Titles of the unexpected
Stanton Sessions Vol 1
Timeless (2cd box) Goldie
Clear - Bomb the Bass

Anyway , you get the picture.  Loads of stuff.  I must have about 200 cds.

PM me if you want to arrange a time to have a root through.

Cheers

Nice one.

Really helpful. When I get back to London I'll pop down charing cross road and get some demonstrations of the models you mentioned.  Definitely the way to go.

In answer to your question, I have a samson power amp.

Thanks.
27  General / The Forum / Re: DnB Mcs at Festivals... on: May 27, 2007, 19:24:25
MCs are great but..........

Asking for a rewind on every other tune can become a bit tiring.

I know rewinds are valid.  It's just I've been to all sorts of drum and bass nights and sometimes the mc just thinks every tune is worth one.
28  Food for your Ears / The Desk / Near Field Monitors on: May 27, 2007, 08:29:36

I have a set of spirit absolute 2s which I've been quite happy with. However they are not mine, and as I'm moving back to London I have to give 'em back to their (very generous) owner.

Recommend me a set of near fields for about 250.  They don't have to be active as I have a studio amp.

just looking to see what people are using or have used and maybe point me in the direction of a model I haven't heard of.

Thanks.
29  General / The Forum / Re: help i in my journey into funk and soul on: May 25, 2007, 16:44:03
This has also been sampled a lot (Major Force etc) but definitely worth a listen.

"the politicians featuring Mckinley jackson"

Psycha-Soula-Funkadelic is the name of the album.

This just about explains it.

Incredibly messed-up funk -- a 70s instrumental classic that's delighted our ears for years! The set's got a cosmic sound that mixes together conventional guitar-based funky with some weird electronic touches at times -- going for a fuzzed-out moogy quality that really deepens the groove -- and which goes even further on those tunes that push the basslines all the way into the red! The group's headed by McKinley Jackson, and features some ex-members of Parliament -- all coming together in a full, rich sound that almost has traces of soundtrack sophistication at times -- yet which manages to come across with the burning energy of a funky 45! The album includes the classics "Funky Toes" and "Psycha-Soula-Funkadelic" -- plus the group's legendary take on "Free Your Mind", a sample classic from years back! Great stuff if you dig a fuzzy Westbound sort of funk groove -- and other tracks include "Church", "The World We Live In", "Everything Good Is Bad", "Speak On It", and "Politician's Theme". Plus, the CD's got 2 bonus non-LP cuts -- the vocal and instrumental versions of "Love Machine"!

A great funk album.

Right,

this is the scan of the Computer Music tutorial from a few mobnths back.

As I said it may not be exactly what your looking for but at least it will give you some guidelines for the settings ofthe compressors etc.

Hope this helps.

32  Food for your Ears / The Desk / Re: Making basssss in Ableton Live - Help! on: May 25, 2007, 08:47:42
I have a computer music tutorial about making bass sounds.  The tutorial is done in Ableton so it's easy to see the settings.  It might not be exactly what your looking for but it will get you on the right track and probably get you thinking.

I will scan it at work today and post it up if you can tell me where I can post a PDF so that you (and others) can get it.

failing that, pm me your email address and I will just send the PDF to you.

I've managed to make a shitty 2 osc synth that makes a 'peep' sound.

I have a small sense of achievement.  I really can't see me making anything spectacular due to amount of time it takes.

It would be good if people could post any reaktor ensembles for the rest of us (ie me) lazy people who don't want to spend my time building synths from scratch.

I'm really looking for odd drum machines that do something a bit different.

This is the land where nothing changes
A land of red buses and blue blooded babies
This is the place where pentioners are raped
and the hearts are being cut from the welfare state
Let the poor drink the milk while the rich eat the honey
all the bums count their  blessings while They count there money!

Heartland - the the

or perhaps this one by the same band

Don't tell me what your name is
I want your body not your mind
I want a feeling worth paying for
Before I say good-bye
But as I was talking
I couldn't look her in the eyes
I just kept wondering
How many men
Unleashed their frustration
Between her thighs

Out of the Blue (and into the fire)
