10657  General / The Forum / Re: New ATCQ LP? on: April 16, 2007, 13:11:15

Has anyone heard Ali shaheed Muhammed's album? It came out a couple of years ago. Really good music, with not so good rapping, but none the less a good album to listen to. Got some good soulful stuff on it.

I'd like to hear a new TCQ album as the Love Movement was a bit disappointing. Never liked Amplified, really either and Phife's album was heavily slept on cos it's not that great either. The three of em work way better together.

I'd probably put MM as their No.1 followed by BR&L as the 2nd with PIT.. as third and LET as 4th.

10661  Food for your Ears / The Desk / Re: Can anyone help me with my drums? on: March 23, 2007, 10:44:21
Google the Raven Spiral guide, to my recollection it has common drum patterns in it somewhere. I can't check it at work, so I can't be sure.

10663  Food for your Ears / The Desk / Re: Can anyone help me with my drums? on: March 22, 2007, 13:55:09

This question is subjective, what kind of music are you making? What sound are you looking for?

If you are using single samples (1 kick,1 snare etc) then the drums will always sound a bit mechanical. If you have multi samples of a real kit, then with skilled programming you can write a more realistic sounding pattern. After that, there are compression, E.Q and reverb/room sound options that can be applied to work towards the sound you are looking for.

Reason is not the best in the world for achieving what you are looking for and there are some dedicated instruments out there which do the job a lot better  - BFD or Battery 3 for instance.

If you're just having trouble with the actual patterns, googling might help you out,to find templates of how to arrange the pattern
10664  General / The Forum / Re: New Redman Album - Red Gone Wild on: March 22, 2007, 13:38:45
I didn't think much of his last mixtape "Live from the Bricks" but otherwise I'm a massive Redman fan and I'm looking forward to hearing this new release. I've read rumour that him and Meth are due to do a follow up album and possibly a sequel to How High, which could be good.

Perception is what we're talking about, not how the eye works. There is no way of proving that the colours I see are the same as every one else, but I see red and I know it's red because I have learnt it that way, but no one can prove we all see the same thing. It's known as "the problem of other peoples minds"

I used to hang out with Mr Harris (sorry that should of read Mr Styles, but his full name is Styles-Harris!) in Weston way back in the early nineties. He used to get all his tracks off of Rene (of Rene and Baccus) I also know Little Mark as well from the same time.

I lost contact, due to friends petty issues related to girls, but it's good to see he's doing well for himself.

10678  General / The Forum / Re: 7"s, 10"s, 12"s or LP's on: January 25, 2007, 12:40:27
Yo,

being a hip-hop dj, most of the records I own have come out on 12" only. So it's gotta be 12"s for me. It must be about those extra inches!!!

Regarding insurance, I'm insured with Hencilla Canworth who insure my (3000 plus) collection and studio for about 450 a year. So if my yard burns down I'm not completely screwed. I wouldn't want to try and hunt down replacements though.

10680  General / The Forum / Re: TRANSFORMER FILM TRAILER // Megatron???? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! on: January 24, 2007, 12:43:27
It LOOKS like an amazing film, but I am expecting a lame set of real world actors and I expect there will be some spuggy kid who ruins all the autobot scenes with his wailing!!

The robots look dope and although a purist for G1 Transformers, I was expecting them to re-work the characters for the big screen. As long as they don't look like the Transformers Energon robots all will be good!

10682  General / The Forum / Re: CDJs on: January 23, 2007, 13:06:29
Pioneers are in pretty much every club these days, but I still bought a Denon DNS-5000, as I use it mainly at home. Pioneers are for people who dont want to think about how the player works. Put the disk in, cue up and you're going!

The Denon has, like the technics, got a moving platter like a real turntable. I like the direct feedback it gives as I am a scratch DJ. The 5000 can also play two tracks off of one CD, you can eject the CD and it still plays for 30 seconds.

Anyway if you're a techno phobe, get a Pioneer.

As mentioned above, FSOL are now Amorphous Androgynous recording kinda Prog Rock stuff, but with a FSOL slant on it. It's good stuff, if you've heard Papua New Guinea Translations you can hear the change happening.

Just saw this, yeh Neil Seymour is a weasel faced little ****er, aside to the fact that he actually looks like Rigsby, he's a complete twat. I let from Barons for a couple of years and found myself with a bust shower and no hot water for about a month due to that little shrimp.
