Quote
The Mystery of the Leaping Fish is a 1916 American short silent comedy film spoofing Craig Kennedy and Sherlock Holmes. The picture stars Douglas Fairbanks as Coke Ennyday, a detective with a massive drug habit who resorts to cocaine at every opportunity; he jigs through the film looking unnaturally happy. Directed by John Emerson, the story was written by Tod Browning, director of the notorious Freaks.[1] Anita Loos wrote the film's intertitles.[2]

A 35mm print of the film still exists in its entirety and is currently in the public domain.[3]

18  General / The Forum / Re: GAMERS! on: February 02, 2015, 14:07:33
I am currently working through Alien:Isolation, which is slow and steady but a good game. Although I do tend to spend a bit too much time in a locker or under a desk, it isn't getting in the way of the game. Some good jump-out-of-your-skin stuff and atmosphere though. Not one for the CoD people.

Just started Grim Fandango and have the re-done (again) Resident Evil awaiting me too.
19  General / The Forum / Re: Bristol Music Monopoly? on: February 02, 2015, 10:25:26
True but it's  just a different sort of venue. I always think of it as a gig venue which has occasional club nights rather than a club.

This is a fair point. Motion can be more like that too; gigs consisting of big name DJs rather than regular club nights.
20  General / The Forum / Re: GAMERS! on: January 30, 2015, 22:58:24
So I finally picked up Far Cry 4. It's pretty awesome so far. Enjoying it even more than FC3 I reckon. It's making my rig sound like a hair dryer with everything maxed at 1440p though!

I found it an enjoyable game, but it wasn't too different to FC3. Still good fun though.
21  General / The Forum / Re: Bristol Music Monopoly? on: January 30, 2015, 16:21:14
Academy is often looked down upon, but they have put on some big events; Snoop recently, I saw Rakim there, Mobb Deep (who are back soon) Red & Meth, GZA and others.

They have Wu Tang in June - http://www.o2academybristol.co.uk/event/74420/wu-tang-clan-tickets
22  General / The Forum / Re: Bristol Music Monopoly? on: January 30, 2015, 16:17:38
Is there even a monopoly here at all? - I don't think so. Motion may be a large (largest?) venue, but it isn't the only one. I hate it personally; big soulless box with militant door staff.

Is it good or bad for Bristol's music scene? - The music scene continues to thrive here.
What should venues/promoters do? - Keep on putting on events.
How has promoting changed over the past 10 years in Bristol? - I don't think it has, other than more promotion on FB rather than here. You still need to put on a good night with acts people want to see.

The music business has changed though as it is now easier to release music and make it, so there are now countless acts out there, leading to some dilution of money and promotional budgets.

Google is ending sales of its Google Glass eyewear.

The company insists it is still committed to launching the smart glasses as a consumer product, but will stop producing Glass in its present form.

Instead it will focus on "future versions of Glass" with work carried out by a different division to before.

The Explorer programme, which gave software developers the chance to buy Glass for $1,500 (990) will close.

The programme was launched in the United States in 2013. It was then opened up to anyone and was launched in the UK last summer.

It had been expected that it would be followed reasonably quickly by a full consumer launch.

From next week, the search firm will stop taking orders for the product but it says it will continue to support companies that are using Glass.

31  General / The Forum / Re: Fried chicken on: January 13, 2015, 16:52:58
It might take a few goes to get the spicing right. I always feel like I'm putting sh-t loads in, but it should take a fair amount. I often do pan fried chicken breast with the same spice ingredients (spices that is) and you only need a dash of each that way. I would say go heaviest with the pepper and paprika and lightest with the salt. The others are for taste and kick, so go as heavy as you want. Garlic powder is fairly potent, so you don't need much and ginger isn't everyone's bag.
32  General / The Forum / Re: Fried chicken on: January 13, 2015, 16:43:11
I forgot to mention chilli powder in the spices. Two Thumbs
33  General / The Forum / Re: Fried chicken on: January 13, 2015, 12:39:47
I make mine with flour, egg and spiced bread crumbs.

I make the breadcrumbs with a coarse cheese grater and add paprika, garlic powder, salt, pepper and ginger powder. Some recipes say add celery powder too, but you can stick whatever spices you like in it, but make sure you go heavy handed with them as they tend to disappear in potentcy with the bread crumbs.

Some say to soak the chicken over night in buttermilk, but I've not tried that still.

Roll chicken in the flour, then the beaten egg, then the bread crumbs. I do mine in the oven these days, so put a small amount of oil (I use olive oil) into a baking tray, lay the chicken pieces on it, cook at 180, turning once after about 15 minutes and wait until they are golden brown. I use breast only, so if you are using leg/wings, you may need to cook a little longer.

I sometimes add a dash of worcester sauce to the egg, or even a bit of chilli sauce for an extra kick.

38  General / The Forum / Re: Catholic Church come up with lamest idea ever on: December 29, 2014, 18:34:46

I'm not sure how stupid this is actually. Of course, it would have no impact here at all as no one would give a shit but Mexico is a very religious country as a very superstitious one. You can always repent your crimes in catholicism and still get to heaven but if you get excommunicated, there is no escape from hell. Being a criminal does not make you any less religious, as with the Italian Mafia.  If I was a Mexican drug dealer, I wouldn't give a shit but I'm not and the people that are are more than likely very religious and might just pay attention.

Not stopped them murdering a couple of priests recently
