A new study suggests that the contamination of drinking water by shale gas is due to faulty wells and not hydraulic fracturing.

Researchers in the US analysed the gas content in 130 water wells in Pennsylvania and Texas.

They were able to trace the methane found in the water to problems with the casing or lining of wells drilled to extract the gas.

See if Beavis is still doing this kind of thing. Technics are his game, but he is worth asking.

https://www.facebook.com/beavisrepairs

Edit: last Hijack posts about that link lead to no response, so it might be a dead end.

There is a guy in PMT (Sound Control) who does repairs that might be worth speaking too as well.

Rane are a good company and write respected articles on various matters, but the absence of an internal fuse is an oddity. I presume they have good reason for it, but I can't think of how one would affect audio quality in anyway, if the PSU was built well.

As I mentioned it:

http://www.rane.com/library.html

Lots of tech notes etc.
4  General / The Forum / Re: Anyone on here good with fixing music gear? on: Today at 09:05:07
Seems there is no internal fuse:

https://serato.com/forum/discussion/481941

They are usually easily accessible if they have one via a small cover.
5  General / The Forum / Re: Anyone on here good with fixing music gear? on: Yesterday at 16:40:32
I expect you have done this, but have you checked the plug fuse and the internal one, as well as making sure the power cable is well socketed? I know these are simple things, but just checking you've consider them.
6  General / The Forum / Re: Studio Engineers on: Yesterday at 11:55:48
I've been mixing music for 15 years now and there is still room for improvement, but most people have been happy with the work I have done for them.

I don't really do recording much these days, because it can be quite labour intensive, but give me a shout on the mixing if you want; on here or FB.

This is my last EP, all mixed by me - https://soundcloud.com/slimetime/sets/vausz-maru-so-ep-slm098 not mastered by me though.

I can do mastering, but it is a real art to get a high quality master that can compete on the same levels as the pros.
7  General / The Forum / Re: Traktor/Traktor scratch users on: Yesterday at 11:21:47
It seems Serato's Scratch is the more popular product. I'd go for the mixer you are happy with, but if you can get a mixer that works neatly with Traktor, that will be better for you I'm sure. I don't know what Traktor requires to run though, does it not come with an interface/protection?
8  General / The Forum / Re: Studio Engineers on: Yesterday at 11:17:31
Depends what you're after. I have some experience, but if you're talking about micing up a live band, then I'm not the man for that task.
9  General / The Forum / You're terminated. on: Yesterday at 10:13:34
My work colleague got this email today:

Quote

Termination #17771349648

Morning,

We regret to inform you that your employment with Semmco Ltd is being terminated. Your termination is the result of the following violations of company policy:
- AVK 89 26.01.2010
- AVK 76 26.01.2010
- AVK 98 26.01.2010

You were issued written warnings on 25.08.2014. As stated in your final warning, you needed to take steps to correct your behavior by 15.09.2014. Your failure to do so has resulted in your termination. To appeal this termination, you must return written notification of your intention to appeal to Soraya Schroepfer in Semmco Ltd no later than 05:00PM on 17.09.2014.

Sincerely,
Rosalyn Elmer

It doesn't look like a phishing email, it looks fairly genuine, except the fact it is a touch informal to dismiss someone so casually by email. The company exists in the UK too. Very odd.

I should point out, that whilst I may come across negative about that, I am a massive FSOL fan. I own this after all:

Gary is such an oddball. It is just as well he stopped performing on tracks, otherwise FSOL would have been terrible.

14  General / The Forum / Re: Bots/Crawlers on: September 10, 2014, 14:39:11
I started a thread the other day, the one about the weird book cover. I would have expected it to get about 70-80 views, but it is now on 1400+.
Such a good thread I just can't stop clicking back.  Bad Teeth

Every time's a charm.
15  General / The Forum / Re: Bots/Crawlers on: September 10, 2014, 09:56:38
The balsamic vinegar pizza has a fairly high click count too. Bots be looking for piggies and pizza it seems.

I started a thread the other day, the one about the weird book cover. I would have expected it to get about 70-80 views, but it is now on 1400+. This is presumably through automated systems clicking on it, probably due to the synopsis of the book that I posted in the thread with key words that bots are looking for.

No real point to this, just an observation.  Bad Teeth
17  General / The Forum / Re: Best book cover ever? on: September 09, 2014, 13:02:17
How has this thread had 763 views in one day? Bots all over the place maaaan.
18  Food for your Ears / The Desk / Re: Soft Synth Settings Change on bounce. on: September 08, 2014, 15:16:55
There shouldn't be any reason for the error, but the Tal stuff is free, so maybe not as well developed? Maybe just try another synth.

A future pig, adopted by a loving family, can communicate through brain-wave actuation via a gadget called b-prompter. Her education of a petís place in human society brings her from self-awareness to cannibalism of pig eating pork. Her masterís experience of overseas female enslavement opens her mind to the existence of cruelty and unfairness among humans. Her aspiration to follow her Mistressí career as an architect is discouraged by virtue of her being a pig. After a wonderful mating with one of her age, motherhood accentuates her alienation, being one of a kind among humans. She has a vision of traveling with the family girl to Animal Kingdom, a realm well before human world dominance. Meeting a dog and a cat, the two girls are shown how the law of the jungle works. They travel on to Pig-land, where her parents and kid sister live. Here the role of human and pig is reversed, but the human herd in the jungle is better tolerated, as her companion becomes a pet in turn. Back into reality, her motherhood is truncated by her two babies taken away for adoption while she is asleep. She becomes a donut, empty at the core. Her search for answer and pain-sharing leads her through several abductee mother societies, Society Against Cruelty to Animals, a biologist, and finally a professor who explains why cruelty to animals can be justified on meat taste. She is drawn to become a martyr by blowing up the slaughterhouse and to bring critical attention to senseless human cruelty on animals, simulating Guy Fawkes attempting to blow up Parliament in London. She has a discourse with God on compassion, tolerance, and patience, after which she finds forgiveness.

Doesn't sound right. Try doing a real-time bounce and see if there is anything audible going on. Check for automation that may have been engaged somewhere too.

What can a company feasibly do with 500 million people's contacts etc (if they really were data mining it)? I would guess nothing.
38  General / The Forum / Re: facebook messenger app on: August 18, 2014, 16:15:15
I think people are being a bit naive tbh. People have this hippy idea that Facebook is their bit of software they get to use for free. And it's not actually owned by a huge company that makes it's business seeling information on it's users. If you use FB you are the product, not the customer.

It is true that you are the product, but there is also the typical mindset that if it is a large company it is evil, that is pervasive in the modern world.

To me the big problem in the world is not the big companies doing nothing with your data, save for selling you an advert, it is these guys:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-28739324

who will happily rinse out your bank account etc for fun or to prove a point that they are l33t.

My colleague Dave has had the odd pint in there. If he likes it, then it isn't the place for me. He is usually found in The Black Cat on West Street.
