1  Food for your Ears / The Desk / where do you get your samples from? on: September 09, 2013, 10:51:08
here are some good sites.

this has got almost all classic drum machines - and it's free!

these guys do great paid for samples - actually worth the cash (for once!) if you want dubstep or dnb or house sounds etc.

I really rate the bootsy stuff and the kjaerhus free plugins - really good sound on both lots. Slayer

this is great too, KVR plugin search database - http://www.kvraudio.com/q.php most things are on there and it's a powerful search function.
3  Food for your Ears / The Desk / Short tutorial on compression on: July 08, 2012, 15:57:22
Hi guys.

Just updated my website, there's a guide on compression up:

http://www.bristolmusictech.com/compression/

I've avoided the "use these settings for this sound" as i think it's more useful to talk about general concepts.

hope it's of some use.

It's for beginners really - i plan to do a more in depth post about compression shortly to cover parallel compression, sidechain compression and the various types of compressors that are available. Perv, mmmhmmm, yummy *rubs hands*

Hi guys.

I'm from a village near brighton originally but moved to bristol about 5 years ago, love it here - great city.

recently been teaching music production freelance, so thought this was a good place to sign up to - don't worry, i won't spam you though!

cheers
