Surely it's where's the jobs to?

Ahh, this might be my mistake! Having only spent time living in Wiltshire and Kent, I only picked up the rather coarse 'at' rather than the wonderfully soothing 'to' Smiley

I'd like to stay away from telesales if I can. Although it seems like I'm well suited to it, I cannot stand working to sales targets where each phone call is an attempt to tuck up the customer with some un-needed item/service/etc. I have worked in customer service rather than sales and found that a lot more enjoyable.

I'm currently doing 2 days a week at a local Aquatics shop which is super fun, unfortunately, they're a small business and I don't think they can afford to take me on full time at the moment. This is a shame as I am worth my weight in gold to any shops in this trade (even if I do say so myself) Smiley

Keep the Agency recommendations coming, I'm a little apprehensive about Agencies as I'm never sure if they're really looking to help me rather than themselves/the employer...

In the meantime, if anyone needs any fishkeeping advice, I'm your man! Roll Eyes
4  General / The Forum / Re: Fwhere are the jobs at? on: March 04, 2013, 15:28:27
I'm not too fussy at this point. Ideally something with some variety as I tend to get a little bored doing the same thing over and over. I'm in a bit of a sticky spot owing to the work I have done, it seems to hinder me more than helping me.

Just so you know what I've done, I've worked in factories for a couple of years, done some shit call centre work, when I lived in Canterbury I worked at an Aquatics shop selling tropical, marine and pond pond keeping supplies. I did that job for about 7 or 8 years, started out cleaning fish tanks and ended up managing the whole place. I think as a result a lot of employers consider me over qualified for more basic jobs. Conversely employers for any "Management" roles would consider me under qualified as in that role I wasn't really doing the whole retail management, targets, feedback-y type thing which most expect.

I've also worked in event management, live sound & light and even worked for the University of Kent as a drama technician for a little while...

if you want to loop etc i'd say your best bet would be to use ableton live. Get some kind of midi controller so you're actively involved in the process.

Basically you need to get something into your show that the crowd will appreciate.

When I was living i Aus it was nice to have a break from politics, I care too much in this country but there it felt like I was a guest in their country.

The other day I spoke to a friend living in Berlin and he was of the exact same opinion! He said it's great out there for those reasons!
25  General / The Forum / Re: bs3 virgin media - ferked this morning on: October 15, 2012, 13:02:49
I guess I got lucky - I've never had internets this fast, I moved from Canterbury where we had about 5mb down and 0.1 up.

It's like I've moved into the Matrix here - always at 50 and sometimes at night it doubles that. Smiley

Luckwell Road, they were redoing the pavement surface on Foxcote rd last week and were digging everything up all around the box....
28  General / The Forum / Re: bs3 virgin media - ferked this morning on: October 15, 2012, 11:35:51

that's this morning but it was a bit flakey on Friday, we put it down to workmen digging and resurfacing right near where the exchange cabinet is (just off Luckwell rd)

but wasn't she attacking Abbott and accusing him of sexism whilst defending the speaker who is a massive sexist?

seems there's a bit of duplicity going on...
Having watched the vid it wasn't less defending the speaker, it was attacking Abbot for his opportunism in accusing the speaker when he had such a poor record himself.

yeah it comes across like that in the video but there's more going on behind the scenes imo Smiley

i wonder if i could get a refund even though i didn't buy a ticket and didn't even go??

print out a bit of paper and give it a go Smiley
35  General / The Forum / Re: BLoc is a Road Block / Cancelled??? on: July 09, 2012, 12:25:59

there's rumours that there were 30000 people there fr a venue capacity of 15000, and one of the scanners wasn't recognising duplicate tickets. It couldn't have been 15000 people copying existing tickets surely?

i've not seen any proof behind the rumours about the 30k people actually turning up but even so, I had a quick google and saw that the LPG capacity is rated at 40k so that's not overselling per se.
plus 15k over attendance can't be explained by 15k turning up to chance getting in. The organisers should also have noticed what demand for tickets was like and made preparations.

I'm basing a lot of what I say on one of my best mates being in the game and putting on events and festivals in the London area as well as Kent, Sussex and Essex. He's had to work with the MET and local councils and I've watched him fuck-arsing about trying to make sure all the H&S concerns are met as without the proper planning the local authorities just won't allow the event to go ahead.

There's something happened which obviously hasn't been released yet, these things don't go tits up like this without a reason, I guess we have to be patient and wait for the truth to come out. I'm absolutely certain that something massive went wrong tho and contingency plans weren't comprehensive enough to cover the problem.  Roll Eyes
36  General / The Forum / Re: BLoc is a Road Block / Cancelled??? on: July 09, 2012, 11:42:03
imo the venue and promoters should all have been aware of the potential complications. There's trade standard rules and regulations for running events, called the purple book iirc which states entrance and exit sizes and the speed to fill and empty a site.

and what about all these righteous punters who are pointing the finger at bloc and the venue? They were the ones printing out multiple tickets and rinsing the fuck out of the opportunity.

I'd say everyone bar the police played their part in this dog's dinner....
37  General / The Forum / Re: where to get good Ramen in Bristol???? on: June 08, 2012, 16:06:17

Kin Yip on St Thomas st, next to the Fleece is probably closest.

cheers Signor, I'll check it out!

I went to Masa yesterday afternoon and had the Chili Beef Ramen, it was nothing to write home about, not many vegetables (2 bits of broccoli, the top of a mushroom and some beansprouts).

Having said that, it looks like they're undergoing staff changes so i'll have to revisit in a few months to see if they've raised their game!

oh yes, i am VERY familiar with Nong Shim noodles, I first had them about 12 years ago and it'a what started me out on my noodle adventure!

I like the nong shim shin cup noodles, the same thing but in a polystyrene cup, they also do a Big Bowl version...

i love the bit at the end where you have to drink the peppery soup and it makes you cough!

LOVE IT

I always wondered why people would go to all the effort of leaving the country to get high, now maybe i'll never know!  Embarrassed

I can't understand why anyone would want to go to Oktoberfest when they can go to Wetherspoons. I can't understand why anyone would want to go to Disneyworld when they can go to Blackpool.  Huh

bad comparison imo. Either way, you have to pay out to get there and the end result is the same for me.  Pimp
