 Tomato Slayer!

Nice thread, good times.

Like most people i got married, had 2 kids (2&5) and haven't been out out in about 6 years. Last club night i remember going to was actress and pinch at blue mountain.
Actually planning a big night out next friday - more of a pain in arse than it used to be, had to organise child care and then an air bnb so we don't have to deal with the little shits people the day after. Seems like a lot of effort to be annoyed at the state of the youth these days.

Don't mix as much as i used to, but manage to have a little spin every now and then. Would like to play to an audience where the average age is above 4 but honestly can't be bothered to organise anything/put in any effort

2  General / The Forum / Re: Christmas parties on: November 18, 2014, 18:17:35
this is the email my Wife received for her Work party, I should add that they have 1 hour for this:

"1 – Each person brings in a contribution to a shared meal. It would probably cost about £5 per person. There are microwaves in the kitchen, but this would basically be a cold buffet. Someone would need to co-ordinate who brings what.
2 – Order pizzas. Not sure where the nearest supplier is. Maybe we could ask for turkey and stuffing pizzas, alongside some vegetarian ones.
3 – We could book a table at the Wessex Flyer, a pub nearby. Recent reviews are not encouraging http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g186220-d5431216-Reviews-Brewers_Fayre_Wessex_Flyer_Bristol-Bristol_England.html
4 – We could book a table at Frankie & Benny’s. Menu attached. Two courses for £16.95, three courses for £19.95. Vegetarian main course is risotto, because rice (even Arborio rice) is cheap. Recent reviews are mixed http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g186220-d731143-Reviews-Frankie_Benny_s_New_York_Italian_Restaurant_Bar_Bristol-Bristol_England.html
5 – We could book at table at Parkview’s canteen (it thinks it’s a restaurant, but it’s delusional).
Menu attached. You can have a main course for a fiver, two courses for £6.99 or three courses for £7.99. Other people from PSC will be there.
6 – Your suggestion."

My suggestion is that maybe they just don't bother

7  General / The Forum / Re: Am I about to make a big mistake using iTunes? on: September 14, 2014, 10:50:23
i dont like it because it moves things, is a resource hog and doesnt have a now playing list.

I use Media Monkey but it has ballsed up my Ipod (duplicating things and not marking compilations properly)

Think of moving over to Music Bee soon, a friend rates it
8  General / The Forum / Re: Djs wanted for Firebreak Sessions on: July 17, 2014, 14:56:02
I'd be up for this.

I play a mixture of funk/disco/house/bass/reggae.

Not got many mixes online at the moment but this is a house one I made a couple of years ago

by old jamaican music do you mean pre reggae? or do you just mean older 'roots' style reggae?

14  General / The Forum / Re: GAMERS! on: April 06, 2014, 08:18:44
Dead Space is free on PC until May (from EA Origin)

Scary shit!  Eek

Was wowed by dead space but my interest wained after a few hours. Might just be the constant tension.

Dead Space is amazing, Dead Space 2 & 3 much less so. The series has very high production values and great set pieces so its a shame it descended into just another cover shooter

Anyone played Metro (PC)?
I played it for an hour and then got distracted and never came back
That happened to me with Metro.
But I got stuck for a game a while back so revisited and I'm glad I did.

Same thing with S.T.A.L.K.E.R only I never went back to that one.

yeah i have played the first four hours of STALKER twice, just cant get into it.
will re try metro though
17  General / The Forum / Re: GAMERS! on: March 13, 2014, 23:43:34
dont buy rage it is very dull

It looked quite like Borderlands, which was also dull. I'm not a fan of Bethesda's games really.
Didn't finish Rage. That mega texture tech its meant to pioneer was dissapointing. Worse than COD ports.
I actually paid almost full price for borderlands2.
Again didn't get anywhere near to finishing it.
Morro wind and fallout/Vegas were deep and satisfying.

Anyone played Metro (PC)?

i have the first on steam that i bought in a humble bundle. I played it for an hour and then got distracted and never came back

Any racing fans in here?

Very much looking forward to Project CARS...

i dont mind a bit of arcade style driving action but tbh i get bored of them quite quickly. I tend to get 3/4 of the way through then loose interest

My old sony hi fi speakers that i got at the beginning of time are finally giving up the ghost and I think the time is right to get some grown up speakers.
I was looking at getting a pair KRK Rokit 5 G3 as they seem good and wont cost the earth.
Are these any good? They seem standard so they cant be all bad can they?

Also i would be plugging them straight into my DJM 700, is that oaky? Or do i need a pre amp?

Civilisation 3-5 on humble bundle  Two Thumbs

Best value for money you'll ever find

I've just bought the lot for $15 - I only needed the last DLC for V.

I've decided to give it another good go.

im gonna get it and play Civ for the first time. Gonna start with 4. Should i jump in with the expansion packs or start with the vanilla version?

I rather enjoyed Ender's Game last night.

As always, not as good as the book, but entertaining nonetheless.

that film looks awful, but awful in the way that i would watch it when half cut

Bells diner is open again and from what i hear (my daughter works there) it's very good..it used to be my favourite place to eat in Bristol ..along with John's Cafe in Midland Rd

Thinking of going there tomorrow or early next week. I presume you would recommend it?

went with the wife last month. excellent tapas style grub.
very different from the food that they used to do, much more relaxed etc
Good ale on tap but served in 1/3rds which is odd

youll probably need hammer for the wall and if you buy a hammer drill then get it corded. I have a hammer/screwdriver cordless thing and the hammer setting has caned the batteries making them useless.

Better to have a corded hammer and a cordless driver IMO

Finally started Skyrim now I don't have to listen to inane chavs and pseudo nerds harp on about it everywhere! Any tips?

(This will probably be the case for me and GTA5 in about 2017...)

expect to spend 70+ hours rummaging through chests and looking at interminable loading screens

oh and adventures and stuff

Sounds terribly dull.

in fairness i have had fun playing the game but now i have reached 70+ hours and i am starting to question the use of time and really cant get round to playing anymore. I still have 2 guilds, the civil war and the main quest to finish!!

just finished Bioshock Infinite, although the gameplay was a little lackluster i thought the story was some proper excellent grown up sci fi Two Thumbs

Completely agree, story was up there with the first one. Combat served the purpose I suppose but wasn't anything special

This is encouraging because Bioshock 2 was rubbish. The first one is a classic.

different team behind Bioshock 2. No Ken Levine to guide the story etc

Steam Sale begins!

I can see I'll be having a go at Borderlands 2 with a few Hijack users.

Anyone else on Steam?

I am.

I've been wondering about Borderlands 2 - not sure if it floats my boat or not...

i enjoyed borderlands 1 up to a point then all the endless looting got boring.

Have you got link to something about this?

I wasn't that impressed with the hobgoblin. Admittedly it is only based off of 1 visit, but the burger I had was really dry, the chorizo with it was (I can't beleive I'm actually saying this) too thick, it made the burger even dryer and just too salty.

My wife had the dirty dirty fries which come full of pulled pork and cheese. She thought they were ok but only ate a little, I didn't like it at all. The fillings were ok but just made the chips a soggy mess. It was just trying to have too much going on at once.

i only had the dirty fries but enjoyed the soggy messyness of them tbh. Each to their own
48  General / The Forum / Re: Recent restaurant recommendations on: June 27, 2013, 12:21:32
On a similar to Grillstock tip the Meat and Bread thing and The Three Tuns iand surprisingly the refurbed Hobgoblin on Gloucester road both do great BBQ style food.

Meat and bread is all sandwiches for around 6.50 that are incredible http://meatandbread.co.uk/
Hobgoblin has a wider range including dirty chips (fries with pulled pork and bbq sauce) chicken wings, burgers and the frankly ridiculous Kraken eating challenge

If you follow the link and click on the second 'here' programme link there's a map. It says sound systems will be open till 2am, isn't that a bit later than normal?

http://www.stpaulscarnival.co.uk/

No. I've been there way later than that in the past

Edit: I also think having some sort of listing or line-up for Carnival is missing the point of it, somewhat. It's not fucking V festival.

for you it's more of a case of find negus melody and staying all day isnt it?  Wink
