As in I know you were joking but I have heard people say stuff like that in earnest
53  General / The Forum / Re: Cameron's web filter // somebody think of the children [merged] on: July 23, 2013, 17:15:34
Why not? I looked at rape porn. Didn't do a rape. That is cognitive evidence that rape porn does not make a rapist.

This is what rape porn apologists actually believe

We've got a horizontal skylight in our hallway: my god the noise!
55  General / The Forum / Re: Cameron's web filter // somebody think of the children [merged] on: July 22, 2013, 14:18:01
I don't understand why, if it's to protect children, it's not an opt-in thing? I'm not a child, my flatmate neither, and there are no children in our flat, like ever.

I do think it's probably quite harmful for kids to be learning about sex from the modern porn industry when so much of what's made today is clearly supposed to be as uncomfortable and degrading for the woman as possible (is that really what people get off on?) but I don't see this doing anything to help with that at all.

57  General / The Forum / Re: GAMERS! on: July 19, 2013, 12:59:28
just finished Bioshock Infinite, although the gameplay was a little lackluster i thought the story was some proper excellent grown up sci fi Two Thumbs

Completely agree, story was up there with the first one. Combat served the purpose I suppose but wasn't anything special

If you're gonna do that, make sure you'd recognise the symptoms of this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serotonin_syndrome

as it increases the risk.

just to advocate a balance so that 5htp doesn't suddenly sell out

Quote
5-HTP is often taken by people coming down from MDMA to relieve post-MDMA dysphoria. The basis for doing this is that 5-HTP is a necessary precursor for the brain to produce more serotonin, and MDMA use depletes a person's natural serotonin levels, thus taking 5-HTP after a dose of MDMA could improve serotonin production. While the practice is common, no verifiable evidence could be found to confirm whether the practice actually works.

5htp is a by-product of tryptophan, an essential amino acid of which dietary sources include egg whites, cheddar cheese, porridge oats, and pretty much any meat

It's so cheap I don't really worry about it

Urgh. Serious Carnival comedown   Sad

I had all the fun  Cheesy

go to a health store and get some 5-HTP supplements; it's an 'ingredient' to serotonin, helps your brain put itself back together.

64  General / The Forum / Re: Bristol, Give Me a Signal... on: July 09, 2013, 14:58:14
I think it is a typical small view of Bristol by someone who has not really spent much time here and has only been to a few parts and not really met many locals. I read it yesterday and I don't recall it mentioning the Harbour Festival, The Carnival, Ashton Court/Brisfest, The Balloon Fiesta, the outlying areas that make up most of Bristol's people such as Southmead, Hengrove, Knowle, Whitchurch, Hartcliffe, Henbury, Bedminster, etc. It seems to focus on PSRC, Glos Road, Nelson Street, Banksy and a couple of nights out. It doesn't acknowledge the existence of the waterfront, Oceana and other bars in that area and other such less-than-cool attributes of the city, which make up most of the city's population.

Not really interested in defending the article but is it really compulsory that to praise bristol you must a) mention every single thing that happens here and b) show that you've given equal consideration to dry suburbia as you do to Stoke's Croft? Obviously most people in their twenties are going to feel more passionate about SC than they are about Knowle.

Oceana etc. you can find in any city in the UK, seems pretty natural to me that she concentrates on what makes Bristol unique.

I wore a hoodie. it was very hot.

I really did regret wearing trousers, and I am going to keep insisting that the crushing hangover I had at about 8PM was in fact heatstroke
66  General / The Forum / Re: St Paul's Carnival 2013 review thread on: July 07, 2013, 12:37:06
I had a good time! Awesome food, good vibes and some really good shit playing on the Red Bull Stage.

Perhaps Pip will give us all a set of rules one day about what we can and can't say...

You're "allowed" to say it; it just makes the person saying it a shitty person with an empathy deficit

Not a film but the Star Trek TNG remasters are pretty incredible, they've released the third season now which is where it started getting good
seen. yes very good.

series 2 was badly done.

If I'm really honest I don't have 50 lying around for a series of star trek and I only watched the one-dvd teaser they had but I might see if I can find a used copy of s3 if they did that one well?
72  General / The Forum / Re: Pretty neat. on: June 21, 2013, 09:39:55
It's the most over-the-top way of getting someone to listen to an mp3 I've ever seen!

I didn't think bill price could actually be real, what a relief!
76  General / The Forum / Re: hmmmm - things that make you on: June 19, 2013, 14:32:23
The reason I'm here is that people on this forum seem nice and generally don't resort to homophobia, racism, sexism within 2 posts of a thread, which is SO rare on web message boards.

Are we using the same hijack here

Vonnegut is one of my favourite authors and I really enjoyed The Handmaid's Tale.

Just reaching the end of "Snow Crash"; absolutely incredible, it's got some flaws but in terms of a book being ridiculous fun (not 'funny', just fun) it's brilliant. And it's fantastically self-aware about how silly some of it is, I mean the main character is called "Hiro Protagonist"...
82  General / The Forum / Re: GAMERS! on: June 13, 2013, 14:03:48
I like the sound of it but I never buy anything when it first comes out, I wait a few months and pick it up used instead.

Currently playing Bioshock Infinite and loving it...

84  General / The Forum / Re: GAMERS! on: June 12, 2013, 09:03:19

But then why anyone would buy a console over a PC is beyond me too.

for me it's because I spend all day on a computer and so being able to sit on my sofa with a controller makes it feel like I've actually had some leisure time instead of just going from one computer to another, it's a mental thing as much as anything

10th June I believe
91  General / The Forum / Re: A pricy pair of melons on: June 04, 2013, 11:20:59
I think I might open a fruit and veg shop in Japan.

What do you suppose makes it so expensive though? Shipping, taxes?

Have you guys ever wondered if your compulsion to mention rape every time anyone talks about sex or women might point to some underlying issues

Have you ever wondered about your 'compulsion' to talk about issues whenever anyone talks about rape?

often and earnestly

95  General / The Forum / Re: Weed on: May 30, 2013, 21:19:55
it's pretty much always been about profit, for the most part anyway.

With the exception of a tiny percentage of supply it's totally always been about generating huge sums of money which by and large gets converted into guns ...

that's the clever sales myth...weed =peace and love

yeah right

I'm not saying there isn't violence the whole way up the chain but saying it's all spend on guns is ridiculous, most of it is spent on making people rich or they wouldn't fucking bother!
96  General / The Forum / Re: Weed on: May 30, 2013, 17:06:26
When you said "kicked it" there I thought you meant he'd died

but seriously this fucking story about the glass, I'm not saying it never happens but jesus, who'd bother?
97  General / The Forum / Re: Weed on: May 30, 2013, 09:33:39
If you're doing any recreational drug every day you've got a problem I think, even if it's caffeine or whatever.

I read about people smoking an eighth a day or whatever and I'm like "how? why?" I don't really get it. Especially not for making you more 'creative' or whatever, it's such a do-nothing drug for me. It can be such a time sink too; like "oh, did I just smoke away a weekend watching cartoons? Oh well."

But, a little now and again, I don't think there's any real harm in. At parties I like switching from booze to weed quite early in the night and that way I don't get such brutal hangovers; it's alcohol that really fucks me up now, 4-5 pints and I spend the next day feeling like absolute death. I think weed is far preferable to that.

Yeah, Bonobo was not that loud especially considering how many people were there but the sound quality was good, just quiet.
