Do you think we chased after animals for meat before we started chucking spears and rocks at them?

weirdly enough tho, if we're designed to run, why do so many people get bad backs?

Because we evolved from a skeletal frame that was not designed to run, out hips are wrong and primarily evolved to have the spine at right angles to the back legs (ish)

exactly, so when people say that running is natural they are wrong?
60  General / The Forum / Re: Nuts on: March 13, 2012, 09:41:42

Do you think we chased after animals for meat before we started chucking spears and rocks at them?

I think that might actually be true. Saw a doco about traditional tribes hunting on open savannah and they basically ran down an animal over several hours until it collapses of heat exhaustion. Obviously they try and surprise it and kill it straight away but once it was spooked it kept its distance so they just kept pushing it until it collapsed.

This is true, been reading about it in my neuroscience text books.

yes.

stick spears in to weaken prey then run it down on the open savannah.

But before we had spears did we just chase? Also take into account that we did not develop traps then. Maybe we just foraged to food and thought one day- "Look at that Bison, he looks tasty. Sod chasing it ill chuck a stone at it"

i think it was when we started cooking food that we hunted animals to supplement all the foraged vegetation.  we would have spent all day chewing raw veg and grasses but developing cooking methods meant we had more time for social activity, as cooked food is softer and easier to eat.  long term, this was a huge help for our evolution - softer food = maximum calorific intake and requires a smaller digestive system, this in turn meant the body could use more resources to evolve our brain and intelligence.  whether we ran or used spears i don't know, but greater intelligence would no doubt have led to innovative hunting methods, and the development of social behaviour would have made it easier as well.

weirdly enough tho, if we're designed to run, why do so many people get bad backs?

The dish on the menu is kiviaq and at first sniff it divides the film crew – from those who were strangely curious to those who wanted to retch. Ikuo and his son showed us how kiviaq is made from fermented sea birds. The delicacy is created by first preparing a seal skin: all the meat is removed and only a thick layer of fat remains. The skin is then sewn into a bag shape, which is stuffed with 300-500 little auk birds. Once full and airtight, the skin is sewn up and seal fat is smeared over all over the join, which acts as a repellent to flies. The seal skin is then left under a pile of rocks to ferment for a minimum of three months to a maximum of 18 months.

As winter arrives and hunting for other game becomes difficult due to the darkness and unsafe ice, Ikuo and his family look forward to digging out the kiviaq and sharing it with their family and friends. They always eat it outside as the smell is so overpowering that it would linger inside the house for weeks. The seal fat helps to both preserve and tenderise the bird meat so it can be eaten raw and whole, bones and all. It was quite a sight to see the family holding bird’s legs in their teeth and stripping off the feathers before chowing down on large parts of the bird.

I know what you meant (i think)

If you aren't on FB your 'real' friends still ring you and see what you're up to rather than just assuming you got the group invite?

Yeah that's what he/she means but its horse shit. If I got rid of my facebook then I can guarantee I'd be less in touch with at least 5 geographically-separated close, true friends whilst I'd still be in regular contact with at least 5 people from my friends list who think I'm a bit of a cunt. And that's why I think its a stupid thing to say. Basically.

that's fine but that's your experience, he (or she?) might have had something different. bit harsh saying it's the stupidest thing you've heard when there's people banging on about alien piss falling out of aeroplanes.

@ Cabalist - reckon me and nicki will pop down for a bit  Two Thumbs

as much as AsQ has completly failed in expressing his opinion in a diplomatic and sensitive fashion in a promotional thread, and has come across as a bit of an intolerant bellend (your gay comment  Huh), i do kinda see where he's coming from.  there is a lot of dark dnb nights at B45, always has been, and every time i see another pop up i just wonder what a big collab could be like if all the promoters put their heads together and took a punt.

that said, and as Stealth mentioned, Metalheadz isn't the label it used to be, and IMO it probably isn't worth the risk putting it on in a 1000 capacity venue, mainly because the current sound is less dancefloor and more suitable for intimate clubs like B45.  as much as i love D-Bridge, i don't think a two hour set would rock Motions main room!

no doubt Friday will be banging!  Tomato Slayer!

This one's well easy to do, whack it in the oven as you're sitting down for dinner and it's ready by the time you want it (blobs of marmalade also work with this too)

Serves 6

Ingredients:

3-4 stale pains au chocolat
500ml milk
500ml double cream (or you can replace the cream and milk with 1 litre single cream
3 tablespoons caster sugar
1 large egg
4 large egg yolks
Half teaspoon vanilla extract

Method

Preheat the oven to 160C/gas mark 3.

Butter a 1 and half litre ovenproof dish, cut up the pains au chocolat (about 1cm) and arrange them in the dish. Put the cream and milk in a pan and bring to nearly boiling point. Whisk the egg, the yolks and the sugar in a large wide-mouthed measuring jug. When the cream and milk are nearly boiling, pour over the eggs and sugar, whisking continuously. Add the vanilla and then pour over the slices of pain au chocolat and leave to soak for 10 minutes.

Transfer to the pre-heated oven and cook for about 45 minutes, or until the pudding is softly set.
