looking forward to this.. saw al of jayetal play last week in winchester which was good - keen to see  the full jayetal live set.

also the dirty sax sleaze master sam and q2 will no doubt be grand and muchly enjoyed juan's trackage last time i saw him.

6  General / The Forum / Re: Music Technology Lecturer (New Job in September)!!! on: July 19, 2006, 12:42:19
Loz - Barry played one of your tracks in a a lecture once..

haha! you lucky lucky people!

..And I wasn't implying that a night of CMT people was necessarily a bad thing. It's just interesting that a 'scene' has kind of grown out of a university course. I can't think of many other instances where this has happened.

just being picky really.
tis a bit of an unusual situation as you say. though in a way i am surprised by this - the course is throwing together people who have similar interests and abilities. i would have expected this kind of thing to happen more often really.
7  General / The Forum / Re: Music Technology Lecturer (New Job in September)!!! on: July 19, 2006, 12:24:36
doesn't matter if they are good.

hmm.. perhaps i should re-phrase that.

if they are good it doesn't matter that they did cmt.

yes, that's better.
8  General / The Forum / Re: Music Technology Lecturer (New Job in September)!!! on: July 19, 2006, 12:09:49
nearly forgot - congrats to simon!
9  General / The Forum / Re: Music Technology Lecturer (New Job in September)!!! on: July 19, 2006, 12:08:25
Thinking about it, the lineup for that Plummet night is almost totally CMT-tastic. Is that a good thing?

doesn't matter if they are good.

Well done, man.

Just don't try to out-Barry Barry, yeah? Bad Teeth

haha! not possible.

what a legend.

he used to call me professor loz.  Roll Eyes great days......
10  General / The Forum / Re: GlitchNight #7 Live Elec Mashin' - floor 1 = Plummet - 28th July - Arc Bar on: July 12, 2006, 09:16:54
We are going to be beefing up the downstairs PA with our new GlitchPA, which has enough Bass to shake to place down to the ground.  Slayer

nice one! the sound downstairs really needs it's hand holding.

is calling it the glitch pa perhaps asking for trouble tho?
11  General / The Forum / Re: Modern Toss on: July 12, 2006, 09:06:50
'fraid so.
i laughed twice. and they were slightly forced laughs too
12  General / The Forum / Re: Modern Toss on: July 12, 2006, 08:55:47
was shit.

read one of the books and loved it but the programme was a big dissapointment.
13  Food for your Ears / The Desk / Re: external hard drives on: July 11, 2006, 15:25:33
cheers all!
pretty positive on the whole.

as a rule I burn CRITICAL stuff to DVD and archive that, as well as keeping it on two seperate HDDs at any one time.
also, once a HDD is 5+ years old I tend to ensure that I have all the stuff I want off it backup up fully on DVD and usually on another HDD as well.

seems like very good advice.

perhaps there's a link between reliability and the careful naming of hard drives?

initially i was going to call mine margot but i don't want it getting pissed up on gin when i'm out during the day.
perhaps herbert would be a better name.

yep, herbert the hard drive it is
14  Food for your Ears / The Desk / external hard drives on: July 11, 2006, 14:08:29
just bought a lacie d2 triple interface thingy. seems pretty good so far.

got it primarily as a temporary backup device to dump stuff on before gigs and the like but does anyone know how reliable things like this are for long term backups?
it seems to be standard studio practice to fill up a drive, archive it and start a new one, but i expect they all use super-industrial-grade-badboy-bank-breaker-drives.

how do consumer grade hard drive fair in the long term?

cheers stinkbag Two Thumbs

i shall be investigating shortly
17  General / The Forum / music on stella ad on: July 07, 2006, 15:20:22
that advert for stella doing the rounds at the moment - b&w, some religious looking chaps farting around on a frozen lake.

anyway - there's an amazing piano piece used as the soundtrack (one i've heard elsewhere)

does anyone know who the composer is and/or the name of the piece?

ta thankingly

hurrah! much fun had last night!

congrats to headphobe - it's been too long since i last saw ned's keyboard bashing antics - more please.

highlights for me - the bass from ebola making me need a poo, pseudoscience and his blippy squibbles, shoutput shouting at everyone, the first track defazed played in the final (fucking great!) and a generally great atmosphere all night.

nice one!

if they're on your computer then plug your output into a mixer and send it back into the input (make sure you turn your audio input monitoring off or you're going to get naaassty feedback.)

nah, you don't want to do that. there are loads of programs out there that allow you to extract the soundtrack from a movie file and save it as wav/aiff/etc.

 Tongue

yeah, well i haven't got any have I? jesus.. some bloody people....

think you can do it in imovie... maybe. otherwise freeware it.

 Script
as far as i can see (please correct me if i have totally missed the point), kore creates composite patches from any plugin effects you have on your computer, the parameters of which you can control from within one window (as if it were a single plugin) using the nice looking hardware controller.

useful, but doesn't sound like the revolution ni are making it out to be.
