so few months have passed and i still have trouble finding a nice design job.

anyone know of any positions open now? heard someone complain about their slow designer?

lemme know!

I'd perhaps re-shuffle your portfolio to feature more commercial work. The first 6 pages (2/3 of it) are flyers and posters for clubnights and gigs - very few Bristol agencies produce this kind of stuff.
It's also worth adding a bit of information about the clients - what they wanted, how you met the brief etc.
You're obviously a talented designer - show your versatility and aptitude for stuff that sells.

Never really got down with anything post-2000, bar stuff like Clarendon/The Shroud. Everything seemed to pile in more mid range rasp and screech than proper sub pressure.  Undecided Kinda like what happened to dubstep. No space in the mix any more.

That said, Tom, I like a lot of your recent AQuake Blast mix, and the Tempo Clash lot are dropping some amazing stuff into their sets

Hello Hijack,

I'm off to Austin, Texas on Saturday for two weeks with work. While I'm sure I'll receive many suggestions for things to do from my rotund American colleagues, I was wondering if anyone has been and can shed a little light on the city from an English perspective? I'm too early for SXSW, sadly.  Undecided

I gather they're fscking around with their routing infrastructure at the moment, not sure why, I guess it's to offer more bandwidth because we all need faster downloads :/

Also heard that the routers they use are dirt cheap and regularly malfunction, although I suspect all the SPs do this.

Tbh, I'm on the basic package and for the amount of monthly outgoings I'm really not impressed with the fact our TV is flakey, it's like watching a breakcore video somedays on certain channels. That and the programming scheduling on most channels is rubbish. Not worth the money, really considering switching to another provider of internet and phone and getting a freeview box instead.

Fuck TV, all about fast internet, can download and stream anything now anyway. With the whole virgin thing been with it years and its deffo worse since it was telewest. Saying that though I think its the technology back to back with the expectations, obviously back then you wouldnt even get 1mb.
Talking to other people on other service providers they are just as bad, if not worse and get no where near the speeds of virgin.

Script Having been with a lot of ISPs over the last 7-8 years, I have to say that Virgin is the one I've had least trouble with. That doesn't make it great, but they're a fuck sight better than the bunch of whoppers at BT. I will never go with BT again. Twatholes.

When you compare it to other festivals that charge 150ish and don't put on even a quarter of what Glastonbury has to offer, it's actually pretty good value.

Got to Castle Park about half 2 and after seeing the biggest queue in the world, decided to go to the pub. Went back about 5ish and got in in 15 mins. "Great!", I thought.
What little booze warmth I had quickly wore off as it was impossible to get served. Even mates who had backstage/press passes were waiting for 45mins in the pissing rain for a pint. Those who weren't wanting to get pissed couldn't get water or anything either.

What music I saw was great, and the general atmosphere was fun, but the one thing that makes wet festivals/events bearable is being able to get a drink or 5. Queueing sober for hours in the rain is a crap way to spend an afternoon.

Left by about half 8. Pub saved the day.

21  General / The Forum / Re: Petition: Make the EDL f**k off and not march in Bristol on: May 14, 2012, 12:24:54

No matter how deluded the EDL are with their extreme right philosophy, they should still be allowed to march.
Yep.
Let them turn up and show what a bunch of nasty, violent scum they are. Let the police monitor, film and photograph them like they do for the hippies. And hopefully nick quite a few of them and keep their prints on record.

Or do similar to what they did up North (Bradford I think?):

EDL turned up in force, as did police. Anti-fascist groups and public were encouraged to stay away, which they did. In the end it was just the EDL shouting at nobody. Occasionally local restaurants were bringing food out to police but in the main it highlighted that nobody wanted to listen to the EDL's shit.

cast your vote to let us know if you want to see a procession focussed St Pauls Carnival this year or cancel the Carnival for 2012
.

Not great options, obviously everyone would choose the first. if they said sound system & music focused or procession or cancel it would be better.

Struck me as a bit of a pointless question too! They would make good politicians by the sounds of it

They made it so they'll only get the answer they're looking for, then they'll turn around to themselves and say "see the people just want a procession"

You seem to think the organisers have a choice in the matter. These are the two options, they really don't have the option of a soundsystem based carnival, from what I can ascertain  Undecided

When I learnt to drive I was told I should use the gears to help me slow down, until recently when on a driving assesment undertaken by a copper, I was told I should take it out of gear and just use my breaks. Im not sure I agree. I asked him and he said breaks last alot longer nowadays and you should save fuel.

That sounds fucking dangerous, you don't have the same control over the car when it's out of gear.

 Script
Plus the saving fuel thing is bollocks. In neutral, the engine still has inject fuel to sustain the revs, whereas if you're still in gear and not pressing the accelerator, the motion sustains the revs, meaning very little fuel (if any) is needed.

the pic with the schmidts it was dropped full retardly n lasted a day. it's still pretty annoyingly low just not that low lol!

Am I the only one who doesn't like the stupidly low 'slammed' look? Laugh

No. It might suit some cars, but most average cars that have been added to, to make them appear sporty, just look awful. Save the money and buy a decent car in the first place!

this is always the opinion of all people who don't get modified cars.

the simple answer is. if i wanted to go and buy a "decent" car in the first place, i would be you, and every other person like you. the whole point of a modified car is taking a car that you personally like and making it unique or to be different. not just buying some off the shelf clone of a car.

usually the type of people who see cars as purely a mode of transport, not something you can enjoy/have fun in.

It's not really a question of 'getting' modified cars. I fully understand putting you own touches on a car, whether that's cosmetically or under the bonnet.
Don't get me wrong, I think a little drop and wheels that fill arches nicely look the business. What I don't understand is making it so low that you can't get over a speedbump and your fronts tear out the archliners when turning in. All a bit too MaxPower for me.

Styling's always gonna be subjective, I personally think it's weird to make your car look like it's springs are f*cked. or, as my mate said "cars that look like they're sat down having a shit".

Some nice cars in this thread though. The Yaris looks sweet btw  Two Thumbs.
