2  General / The Forum / Dam0 Presents - Its a Techno Thing [mix] on: July 06, 2012, 13:57:54

Its been about 6 months since I’ve been bothered enough to make a mix, so I thought that it was about time to make amends. A lot of the clubs that I was going to were playing music that was really slow and boring, the kind of stuff that you would listen to at home whilst laming on bookface with the TV on mute.

I got fairly bored with it all and went back to cheesy 90s shit and old faves like Alice in Chains. I just thought that I was getting old, but then I went to Glade Festival and got a huge injection of techno and house. Notably, Blawan and Marcel Dettman blew us away with some chunky techno that wouldn’t have sounded out of place at Atomic Jam in the late 90s.

So I’ve been listening to all of my old Dave Clarke mixes again, but the only problem is, that these days, I find that the tempo is way too fast, (~140 BPM). I even ripped my Jeff Mills – Liquid Rooms CD and slowed it down to 125 BPM to make it slightly more listenable…..Anyway, I felt inspired enough to make a mix, its got some fat chunky techno and tough house selections….

Enjoy…

25  General / The Forum / Re: Why do promoters not announce headliners? on: July 01, 2011, 15:15:00
Alot of the time its to do with the fact they're playing at another event close to the date. Out of courtesy the promoter who has the same DJ at a later date will advertise as 'Special guest' to allow the other club night who have them first to get a crowd off the name. When that event has passed the name of the special guest will be revealed in advertising.

Maybe they are playing somewhere else that night / weekend and they simply aren't allowed to say who it is. Happens quite a lot in London when peeps play Fabric and then play at some dirty little warehouse party afterwards.

Then your best bet is to apply for work, anywhere, everywhere, whatever might still be looking for people, although you've left it a bit late.

And if you do manage to get some work, actually do it! Otherwise you're just fucking up your chances of going again, and ruin someone elses festival while they cover your shifts...

I have worked Glasto before believe me. I did my shifts...I'm not doing it again though. Did it for 2 years, was fun, but not for me anymore. There will be a way. Cheers though.

43  General / The Forum / Gino Ginelli Presents The Techno & House For Your Face Mix May 2011 on: May 14, 2011, 11:18:57

It was a Wednesday night. Gino was 31 stories up in the Paramount bar overlooking the city of London. He stared out of the window and had an eagle eye view of the best party city in the world. Then, after 27 shots of black sambucca, he argued with a cab driver, somehow got home and felt inspired to make this mix of techno and house.

Gino doesn’t dwell on any track for too long, keeping attention throughout the mix. Chuggy techno and house makes way for the sounds of Visionquest, DJ Sneak, Clockwork, Soul Clap, Paul Ritch, Dark Mountain Group – Lose Control (TUNE), Commando and Mark Broom. Its an eclectic mashup of old and new and bumps along at 124 ish BPM.

Its been a while since I made a mix. I felt inspired after seeing Max Cooper DJ a couple of weeks ago, easily one of the best sets I’ve seen in ages. Its a mix of tech, house and other bits. Borderline melodic, if you have heard any of my other mixes, you will know what to expect. I will put up a tracklist soon. Its caled get back to the 90s, but its more inspired by rather than a retrospective. But in the meantime, enjoy.

So after the last download overwhelmed our website, we decided to host this one on Sendspace. Matt’s last mix has almost hit 700 downloads, which is amazing. If we could say something about the last one, it was one of his first ever mixes. This one is an absolute world away, you will notice an amazing improvement, almost like its 8 years later in fact! Once again, its the sound of now from way back when…..Get your 90s revival on and get involved. Matt is based in Bristol and if you need to get in touch with him for bookings, send me a message.
