@ GOLDEN LION
244 GLOUCESTER ROAD
8pm - LATE
£3 ENTRY

RUCKUS COLLECTIVE

(UPBEAT HIP-HOP/FUNK ENSEMBLE)

FUNK FROM THE TRUNK
MR LINGO + POWERCUT + EWAN HOOZAMI
(FFTT Residents/2nd Room Party Kings)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Following on from the birthday celebrations FFTT Live goes bi-monthly at the Golden Lion and comes back strong with a local hip-hop funk outfit RUCKUS COLLECTIVE. Existent in various forms since October 2006, it was not until early 2008 that the Ruckus Collective really took off, quickly earning a reputation as one of the city’s most exciting new bands.

A constantly evolving palette of influences including funk, jazz, rock, hip-hop, ska, reggae and ambient electronica has drawn comparisons with the likes of Ozomatli and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, but in reality it is impossible to categorise this remorselessly genre-smashing punk fusion party sound.

"a modern funk band that didn't make me want to rip my own ears off" - BBC Bristol Uncovered

"Ruckus Collective are bold as brass and funkier than old socks - one of Bristol's hottest bands right now" - Mad Method

Joining the FFTT residents behind the decks will be SUZUKI, the man with a plan behind the hot new night WabiSabi. WabiSabi is a Japanese phrase referring to finding beauty in imperfection, and certainly this phrase reflects both his and our music policy to a tee! Funk-fuelled, hands-in-the air type fun all the way!!! We look forward to him making his FFTT debut with the finest cuts of WabiSabi in conjunction with the FFTT resident DJs keeping things funky till the early hours.

Yeah it was ok, not greatdrummer was amazing and they nailed some parts but as a night it was pretty boring. Also the engineer and people fucked up hard as the sounds was so shit even the band had to stop! few times a been to metropolis there is always a problem with the sound.

Yeah was a bit boring i'll agree with that. Saw Organ Doner, and skipped out a couple of tunes later. In fairness to the sound last night it was actually a problem with their equipment - power supply from the deck was feeding back and not anything the engineer could do for a change. Otherwise it wasn't so bad.

::STOP PRESS:: FFTT XXL GETS THE CHANCE TO DUKE IT OUT AGAINST THE NEXTMEN!!!

Unless you have fallen lifeless somewhere thru the cracks you’ve more than likely witnessed Cambridge come Londoners The Nextmen, also known as Brad Baloo & Dom Search, at one of their many sweaty styled-out club sets, festival-stopping performances or heard their incendiary mixtapes on the neighbourhood ghetto blaster.

This eclectic production duo have carved another shiny gem from London’s lovely low-end underbelly with a mix of electronic music styles in the form of their fourth studio LP ‘Join The Dots’ which hit the streets last August. In typical Nextmen fashion the game has been sonically upped to dizzying heights as ‘Join The Dots’ progressed like a paint by numbers prayer of affection through all the genres and styles that are loved by the pair and their fans alike. The album was born from their explosive and eclectic DJ sets, which have been the focus of global critical acclaim over the last 12 years.

Making this connection between music they love be it dancehall, drum’n’bass, instrumental and actual hip hop, soul, funk, dubstep, indie, leftfield, ambient, pop and straight-up hands in the air party jacking pleasers, is something Baloo and Search always strive to achieve, weaving their way on 4 turntables with mastery and abandon, laced with their own sought after mash-up edits, bootlegs and specials. This studio record is certainly a reflection and reaction to what they have accomplish as DJs and a natural follow up to their last critically acclaimed album ‘This Was Supposed To Be The Future’.

Joining the Nextmen behind the decks and vying for dancefloor supremecy will be the FFTT funkateers; Mr Lingo, Powercut & Ewan Hoozami.

Providing the usual energy and dancefloor fillers to keep you dancing well into Sunday morning; expect to hear anything from straight up funk & beats to soul, boogaloo and hip-hop. Guaranteed to give your dancing feet a treat

had the best festival of the whole summer  (and I do a lot of them).  It is quite simply the most fun you will have anywhere and is completely ridiculous (and sometimes out of control!).  Remember to take a blow up dingy and you speedos for some swimming in the lake action.

all of this!! Last year was my 3rd or 4th SGP and the best yet. Highlight was playing the tower in the middle of the lake on Friday night and then seeing the thing burn sat night. Even had grass on it for chilling/drinking/sunbathing.

also doing acid on the sofa in chai wallahs was  Smashed Slayer Love Perv, mmmhmmm, yummy *rubs hands*

::STOP PRESS:: FFTT XXL GETS EXCLUSIVE BRISTOL DEBUT FOR THE HOTTEST UK FUNK/SOUL  ACT OF 2009 - SMOOVE & TURRELL!!!

Ask anyone on the funk or breaks scene who’s dropping a rocking beat and “A Man called Smoove” is the earnest reply. So far so good. But it’s not just good, it’s career making good and the reason why is that in John Turrell, Smoove has found his vocal match.

Throwing down somewhere between Otis Redding and Animals frontman Eric Burdon, geordie Turrell is the epitome of blue-eyed soul. A working class family man with a voice that takes him and everyone who hears it to a place so far away from everyday life - it’s like a door to a different world is opened in your ear.

Known mostly for uptempo, northern soul influenced, funk and beats jams, on this album Smoove finds someone who can roll with him on those lofty highs but then provide the gravel voiced soul for the comedown.

The BBC’s funk afficionado and occasional hellraiser Craig Charles certainly thinks so, and has heavily supported tracks from Smoove & Turrell on his radio show and has even put pen to paper to write the liner notes for their acclaimed debut album; "Antique Soul".

FFTT are proud to present their good mates and favourite northern monkeys SMOOVE & TURRELL alongside the man who created Chap-Hop; Mr. B! On a one-man mission to introduce Hip-Hop to the Queen's English, Mr. B is straight out of Surrey!

Having spent the best part of a decade bringing some manners back to popular culture, this dopest of fellows will entertain and amuse you with his ingenious stylings. Aiming to dazzle with dignity, Mr. B takes to the stage with his Banjolele and stiff upper lip to perform ditties of pipe-smoking, high society, Cricket and sexual misadventure, as well as some more well-known pieces from the world of Hip-Hop, re-worked in true Chap-Hop fashion.

As ever the FFTT DJ's will be delighting the crowd and B-boys with their unique blend of all things funky and soulful through till the early hours.

This is the best possible way to kick off your long Easter weekend! See you at the front!

The Bank - Best Sunday roast in Bristol pubs; rare roast beef with all the trimmings and decent portions

The Bell - My local boozer and always something interesting going on there

King Willi - Always seems to be the best place to meet people before going out; cheap and cheerful

Hope & Anchor - Local work pub along with the Bag O Nails, but this swings it for their huge sangers

Full Moon - My other local, nice atmos and always open on the way back from places it seems

Apple/Thekla - Best floating boozers, cracking in the summer of course
