I enjoyed myself. Didn't think a lot of stuff was as good as last year but the two fencers on Broad St is a wicked piece. Bit gutted about the Limited Press sperm whale being displaced for a bit of shit but hey ho. Smelt loads of good food but when it came to the time for me to get some grub everything had gone or been shut down so ended up in KFC instead. FML
10  General / The Forum / Re: Abbey Road on: August 14, 2012, 23:02:49
I have never listened to a Beatles tune all the way through, let alone an album.

It's not that I think they're shit or anything - I've just never really fancied it.

Cool story bro.

What you have to remember about The Beatles is their whole catalogue of music was created in the span of a decade. That is a ridiculously short amount of time when you take into consideration an earlier tune like Love Me Do and contrast it with something like Tomorrow Never Knows. Without their involvement it would have taken a lot longer to have some of the music we now enjoy. Massive respect to them, although everyone universally think McCartney is a fucking chief.

I find it hilarious that some people can't conceive of other people not liking something as much as they do.

This. I can't stand the Beatles, they drive me mental. I've lost count of how many times I've ended up having the same fucking conversation at a house party 'but what about white album/revolver/blah blah blah, influential blah blah blah'

Haha! Yeah thats kind of true, but I didn't tell EVERYONE I was an expert kick boxer. I just told Tom Macdonald and Gary Leather that for some reason. I dont know why, it was just a bit of fun I was having for a while but I told pretty much everyone else it wasn't true. Ah good times! Essaouira is great, but you'll get bored after two days. Be very wary of randomers "sorting you out" for hash, a lot of them are in cahoots with the po po. Take an excursion to Cascades D'Ouzude, it's nice there. Don't let them force you into a tour, it's fucking dull! Be prepared to be ripped off the first evening, it happens. By the end you'll become an expert haggler. Don't expect everyone to be out to rip you off, it's hard to judge but you get used to it after a while. The food on the main Marrakech square is fucking NOICE.

Oh and go to the Yves Saint Laurent gardens (Les Gardens Majorelles) and one of the water parks if you have a spare day. My gyal and I went to Aquatwat or something and it was me, her and about 12 other pasty cunts. No queues!

I said this to my missus last night while watching the news. Negativity for everything seems to be an archetypal trait of the English conciousness it seems.

We had a takeaway from Sheesh Mehal at the start of June and it was the same as always (i.e. really good). What did you think had changed?

Wow! De La Soul.. Wicked booking.. Have to say a very public biggups to the whole Brisfest Committee and in particular Poppy for having the vision, grit and determination what is it, 5 years ago>? To put a plan and mission together to bring back Ashton Court Festival.. Should never have gone in the first place, and this really epitomises what the music scene should be all about IMO (it gets forgotten someimes!).. Community diven, supporting all of Bristols underground regardless of genre with a core organisational values that are about giving something to the people..

May be a little premature as the festival hasn't actually happened yet, but for getting to this stage is outstanding and we owe Brisfest our full support to make this Festival succesful for years to come.

 LIGHTAH!

I've had a shit night at Lakota before and I did blame it on them because they didn't have the necessary control over people entering and exiting the smoking courtyard. It got proper surged at one point and was fucking scary being in it. Was that the promoters fault?

LPG only had one entrance from what I've heard. Big mistake for an event of that size IMO.

That was the promoters fault IMO. If I booked a night at Lakota then sold 3000 tickets I would be the one to blame! Choose your venue wisely, are you saying that Bloc booked that venue without making sure their one entrance could handle that many thousands of people? Same thing at Gener8tor years ago. "I know lets book a night that joins multiple clubs together then have one entrance." Look what happened, police turned up closed the road off, half the people couldnt get in. Promoter at fault full stop

I'm not saying that it's just LPG's fault. However I think they're both to blame for this clusterfuck. Responsibility can certainly be attributable to more than one party y'know?

Bloc Weekend at London Pleasure Gardens- Closure

At 00:45 on Saturday morning, following advice from the Metropolitan Police, Bloc was subject to a controlled shut down due to crowd safety issues.  Egress from the site was carefully managed and nobody was harmed throughout the process. By 0200 the site was clear.

The decision to cancel the event’s second day was taken to ensure public safety as a measure against the potential for more overcrowding.

The BT River of Music Africa stage, which will be using a completely different site layout and is not affected by the same issues, will be going ahead as planned on Sat 21 and Sun 22 July.  For more information and tickets, please see www.btriverofmusic.com

Other forthcoming events include the Art of Dark Garden Party on July 14th and Carnaval Del Pueblo, Europe’s largest latin festival, on the 18th August, as well as the Last Mile Festival, a programme of special events during the Olympic Games from 28th July – 12th August & 29th August – 8th September.

Garfield Hackett and Debs Armstrong, co-directors of LPG, said: ‘We are hugely disappointed that Bloc Festival had to close early last night and has been cancelled today. We are fully investigating what happened and will provide further information when we are in a position to do so. We thank our staff for dealing with the issue in a manner which ensured that the site was cleared safely.’

What a piss take! Absolute jokers. Bloc haven't apologized yet either have they?

Well to be fair, should LPG apologise? It wasn't their event, it was Bloc's. If you had a shit night at Lakota, you'd be annoyed at the promoters, asking for the venue to apologise is a bit precious.

Bloc was at fault simply put.
Seen so many people trying to point fingers at the venue, the stewards, the ticket sellers etc but all of that is just poor management trying to shift blame.

Hired a shit venue? Blocs fault.
Hired a shit eticket firm? Blocs fault.
etc etc.

Doesn't matter who they claim was the weak link, they brought them in, it was their choice.

I've had a shit night at Lakota before and I did blame it on them because they didn't have the necessary control over people entering and exiting the smoking courtyard. It got proper surged at one point and was fucking scary being in it. Was that the promoters fault?

Feel bad for the punters, especially when they had to brave a fucking shabby summer. Can't say I'm too arsed about the promoters though. Trying to take things on too grand a scale without the forward planning because they're chasing the buck. It always sounded too grand a leap, hence why I haven't been arsed in the slightest about going.

Def hope the people get their cash back though.
