I know nobody reads this forum anymore. And nobody goes out anymore.
But I'm airlifting the mother-in-law into the country so I can finally go Boomtown. So I felt the need to come here and say so.

Finally felt safe to enter here as I saw it last night. Very good. I felt it lacked something I couldn't quite place. Perhaps the child inside me? Sets were amazing, Ford seemed a little wooden.

So anyway, I'm struggling for birthday ideas for my boy who turns 14 next week. He doesn't know what he wants and neither do I. But I'd quite like to do some kind of adventure activity with him. But I really am struggling for ideas, so thought I'd open it to Hijack.

Obvs, the following:
Give him a nose full of Ket and take him shopping in Chemical Records, City Centa Sauna Gift Voucher, Crate of cider, etc, etc....

Can't seem to find an answer wondering if anyone knows....

If you have a 32 bit win7 system with hardware capable of running 64 bit. Can you opt to get 64 bit windows 10?
Thinking about it I'm guessing not as it would probably mean a format to achieve losing all files.  Undecided
I found the answer to this if it's relevant to anyone.if you have 32bit you have to 'upgrade' to 32bit Win 10. However you can then do a clean install of 64bit and your licence remains valid. If you don't upgrade and just do a clean 64bit install you need to buy a new Win10 licence from MS.

25  General / The Forum / Re: OMG it's a music discussion thread! (Synths) on: June 23, 2015, 11:55:47
Personally I'd rather go for a decent midi controller and go the soft synth route. Esp in the ace free synth available. That said, lots of hardware synths double as a midi controller. Dependingepending on what kind of music you are planning to make may influence the type of synth you go for.
Check out the Arturia stuff though.

Good news team!
Please spread via Social Media:

Avon and Somerset police have identified and “nabbed” a gang that has been targeting bikes in and around the Stoke Gifford area.
They have recovered a lot of bikes (1500!) from them, and have begun the process of returning them (a couple of expensive bikes have already been successfully returned to their owners !)
If you have had your bike stolen from work or the surrounding area, please get in touch with Paul Thomas, give him the make of the bike and he’ll check if it has been recovered.

An extreme option could be to take out all the internals and spray all the internal faces with some of this:

35  General / The Forum / Re: Vestax mixer receives radio signals ?? any help ?? on: June 10, 2015, 12:29:06
Has the mixer got the standard grub screw on it for earthing turntables? Usually around the back. Get a long bit of wire screw one end on the screw. Then try holding the other end in your fingers. Also touch the wire on any grounded piece of electrical equipment (Metal chassis screw etc). Even a copper radiator pipe. See if it makes a difference.
36  General / The Forum / Re: Vestax mixer receives radio signals ?? any help ?? on: June 10, 2015, 10:50:08

Well as Vestax goes its a wall wart as thats the only "mains" they do with there mixers.
Thought so. Units aren't earthed via the mains.

What are you connecting this to? TT's? CJD?
37  General / The Forum / Re: Vestax mixer receives radio signals ?? any help ?? on: June 10, 2015, 10:42:55
Hey guys i have checked everything in my flat and even another couple of mixers and no troubles.

There are no laptops or anything plugged on my latest tests as all I literally have is a mixer plugged in on main electrics and headphones. Nothing else is actually plugged in even in the plugs.

I have been wondering if it is the power cable or just the mixer which has lost its earthing...
Does it have a proper mains lead or is it a wall wart on the mixer?
38  General / The Forum / Re: That Windows 10 icon that just appeared on: June 03, 2015, 14:54:27
Had a quick read around the net. Seems there were rumours of Windows being a subscription. But that doesn't now seem to be the case as they have today confirmed pricing for those who don't/cannot take the free upgrade offer.

Microsoft today announced that Windows 10 will be available beginning July 29 in 190 markets around the world. Customers with PCs and laptops running Windows 7 and Windows 8 will be able to get Windows 10 as a free upgrade. Consumers will have one year from July 29 to take advantage of the free upgrade.

Once a Windows device is upgraded to Windows 10, Microsoft will continue to keep it current for the supported lifetime of the device—at no cost.

OK. So. Is the interference in one channel or both?

What is plugged into your mixer? Generally this is a cable acting as an antenna. Pretty common for this to happen with instrument amplifiers.
40  General / The Forum / Re: That Windows 10 icon that just appeared on: June 03, 2015, 13:59:21
So win10 is a subscription OS???

i am intrigued as to what will happen if i click it on my non-genuine version of win7.  Undecided
I'm not sure they'd actually care too much. Personal opinion but they are giving away a free operating system because they want everyone who uses Windows to be on a level playing field. They want you off of Windows 7 as much as teh legawls.
43  General / The Forum / Re: 'Sound of a City' - our documentary on live music in Bristol on: June 03, 2015, 11:03:16
So it does essentially cover one area of the 'Bristol Sound'. Sorry I appreciate my posts sound pretty negative, but just trying to get more of a handle on it. Bristols sound is vast and ever evolving. I wish you the best of luck with your project and look forward to seeing it.

Zorin.

not come across that. seems like its a virtual machine or summit.
No, just a Linux build based on Ubuntu, but similar in looks to windows. Only linux build I've used that I haven't spent several days afterward trying to fix following installation.

45  General / The Forum / Re: 'Sound of a City' - our documentary on live music in Bristol on: June 02, 2015, 11:23:25
the Bristol sound.

Most hated phrase in Bristol?

Would be interested to know what 'genre' these acts represent? Hip Hop? Folk? Punk? Jazz? Often find that usually these kind of things (though generally written not filmed) cover only one aspect of Bristols sound.
46  General / The Forum / Re: That Windows 10 icon that just appeared on: June 02, 2015, 11:17:50
I clicked it on my girlfriends PC. My win7 PC is kept off the net and our main family PC runs Zorin.

Basically clicking it gets you the free limited time upgrade. It'll download in the background at some point and will upgrade on a certain date. Clicking it at this time is just an opt in. You can opt out again if you wish before it goes live (June 29th I think).

Everything will work post upgrade obviously...
