1  General / The Forum / TOM STAAR - MAY 12TH (THURSDAY) AT TIMBUK2 on: April 24, 2011, 16:19:59
Hey guys, any of you looking for a banging House night, then look no further than CRAVE, run monthly, and this month we have Tom Staar (Co-head of MODA records), bringing us top quality House music, Having releases with Herve and Style of Eye soon, he's certain to smash it this year, be the first to witness it at CRAVE, only 3 NUS before 11 and 4 without, 5 after 11. we also have support from Dubious, and rising talent Dr Hugo who has had his tunes played out by Rinse and Sub FM to banging effect. Let the fun begin!
2  Food for your Ears / Hijackers' Tunes and Mixes / Fresh, young talent for CRAVE on: February 18, 2011, 14:44:44
Hey guys, CRAVE is a night I run alongside my DJ partner, its a new night had its opening party last month got a fair few in, but we want to uncover new DJ talent, maybe give these djs a breakthrough at a real venue alongside decent producers and djs, so any students or just young people wanting to get involved just message me back on this thread and we'll go from there, Cheers Cheesy

Mate I don't doubt mid week gigs will be very tough for us, we got the main room packed on our last one, and in our d'n'b we got an encore at the end of the night with our dj Alex Crump. we got through 150 people, which aint too bad as we were competing with a closing party at Dojo's, Syndicate and thekla the night before. we'll build on it, our next one is 2nd March if anyone is interested, our headliner is an upcoming producer named Just Kiddin' signed for Top Billin'.

Why dont you have a night where you play the music that you love rather than trying to second guess what the post-ironic indie electro yoofs frequenting our universities want to hear.

Probably because he/she/it is trying to make a profit!

Lol, obviously we want to make a profit as well so you're right there! but the music i play is stuff i would dance to you like a madman in a club, but i know is also popular, I just don't go for ambient music, I'm all about the jump up electro sound, Alex Metric, Boys Noize, Soulwax etc.

Our first night went well for a night competing with a closing party at Shake a Leg at Dojo's and Syndicate (the worst club of all time), and DJ fresh the night before. its pretty busy and will be hosting the night again on the 2nd March, Video will be linked here when it has been edited, so will be photo's Smiley

Love can't turn around is a very good old school anthem to be fair, it seems everyone on here has a bit of an old school feel when it comes to their favourite house tune. I recently discovered Non Human by Felix da housecat, thats a pretty awesome tune Cheesy, if you want to hear some old school anthems, we play old school jungle and house at CRAVE at Timbuk2, next one is 2nd March 3 on the door.

I find that kinda dance, quite hard to get into, but in the right mood it would be perfect to chill out too, i quite skylark remixes, specially muzik xpress, but that more dancey than chillout. I don't think you can ever write off a particular type of house, as there is a type for every mood.

There are just ome tunes for me that stand out, and when I'm out and about I almost feel like dancing, i know that sounds really cheesy lol, but some are so good. I think house is probably the most expansive genre, covering so many areas.

What's your favourite House tune? Is it old school, prog, tech, and what even defines the House genre?

One of my favourite is Just a Goody Party by DJ Sneak...LOVE THAT TUNE!  Two Thumbs

I haven't heard of this genre, I checked online what it meant but couldn't find anything, of course this could be a joke... Smiley.

hey we're Lamb Skank, thank god we found a decent Bristol music forum. Theres two of us in Lamb Skank, and we play the uni scene really. Play Thekla, Basement 45 ,Timbuk2, Bar Bijou, and UWE SU. Running a night at Timbuk2 starting Wednesday 2nd Feb, called CRAVE, will be a crazy party, playing a lot of genres really, but our main line of music stems from house, electro and electro swing, not dubstep and D'n'B as we feel the is too full in Bristol, and that House needs more of a shout Cheesy. check out our page, and if you have any suggestions to improve our night, or want to play just ask Cheesy

Haha, believe me we're not as stuck up as some ppl must think, we're just here to have a good time, what you see is what you get, we both have a massive passion for dance music and of course want everyone to have good time, no pretence!  Smiley any music played is music we would want to hear out, It'll be mostly based around Electro, like ReSeT, Boys Noize, Wolfgang Gartner, Goosestep etc. with some ravey bassline/garage etc. We'll try not to be too pretenious with our music description next time!

Well guys, there have been some interesting comments to say the least, We were thinking of adding Electro Swing to our night, which is getting bigger, what do you guys think, with our night we were going to go for a sumer of love theme, the smiley faces, uv face paint, tie dye decor, anything we could add?

15  General / The Forum / CRAVE - A NEW NIGHT! (AT TIMBUK2) on: December 31, 2010, 01:12:27

I've only been in Bristol for a few months but have found a worryingly low amount of House and Electro nights going down  Huh, Now at the start of Feburary there is a massive new night taking over, in the form of CRAVE! Banging House and Electro to sooth the soul, along with Proper Post Indie music till your ears bleed.  Tongue

What else is lacking from Bristol that we could help bring?
